February 27-March 1, Lomira had three wrestlers, Jordan Lisiecki, Marshall Hanke, and Marek Lisiecki, travel to Madison to compete in the Division 3 WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament.
The Lisiecki brothers both advanced to Friday’s state semifinals in their respective weight class, with Jordan getting two wins at 113 and Marek getting one win after a first-round bye at 150.
‘Jordan Lisiecki had an awesome tournament with defeating the two seed in quarterfinals then taking the three seed to overtime before losing in his semifinal match,” said Head Coach Adam Kinyon “Jordan showed tremendous growth this season by being better this season after last year’s state qualifying and he will continue to build off his fourth-place finish in his next two years in the program.”
“Marek lost a heartbreaking 5-4 decision in his third-place match to finish his career with a fourth place on the podium after working so hard to get on the top of the podium during the last four years,” said Kinyon. “He is an outstanding leader and captain for us with his work ethic as an example to our younger wrestlers to follow plus Marek is everything I could ask for in a wrestler, leader, and person.”
Hanke also had a first-round bye. Although he lost his second-round match, he battled back to get three wins in a row at 138.
“Marshall had a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in the quarterfinals but fought back with three straight wins to get on the podium with his fifth-place finish,” said Kinyon. “He is a two-year captain for us with the last few years of training showing how to be a wrestler in the program and I am even more proud of the man he has become through this process.”
Hanke will be continuing his wrestling career and studying criminology at Wartburg College.
Lomira wrestling finished their season with a productive state weekend and three wrestlers finishing their season on the state podium. Jordan Lisiecki finished fourth in his 113 weight class, Marshall Hanke finished fifth in his 138 weight class, and Marek Lisiecki finished fourth in his 150 weight class.
“We had a very strong showing in the state tournament during this past weekend where we ended up with all three of our wrestlers ending their season on the podium,” said Kinyon. “They have reached heights in the sport that most wrestlers can only dream of but more importantly they have learned huge life lessons along the way with hard work, humility, persistence, the importance of setting goals, how to go about achieving their goals, setting good examples for others with the individual nature and physicality of wrestling teaches these lessons far better than any other sport.”
