On April 4, Lomira softball beat Freedom 5-0 in their home opener of the season.

Haleigh Caspary gave a Freedom changeup for a ride over the centerfield fence in the fifth inning to give the Lions a 5-0 lead.
The Lions’ pitching and defense did the rest to secure the 5-0 non-conference victory for Lomira.
“It was a good team performance from our defense supporting our pitchers and our offense adjusting to their faster pitching, which resulted in our team finding ways to get on base for the win,” said junior Haleigh Caspary. “I saw the right changeup pitch to hit the ball over the fence to help the team get the win.”
Lomira’s pitching duo of Nora Buske and Haleigh Caspary combined for the seven-inning pitching shutout with nine strikeouts against Freedom.
The Lions’ offense combined for four doubles, a triple, and a home run from five different players in their powerful lineup.

The Lions had four different players drive in runs in the third inning, highlighted by Bloohm’s RBI single to further increase the lead to 13-0 with their impressive showing.

The Lions’ offense was led by Taylor Bloohm and Nora Buske, each having three RBIs, while Haleigh Caspary got the win on the mound with six strikeouts.
“I am very excited about the energy the team brought today where they came ready to go despite the cold conditions by embracing the opportunity,” said Head Coach Stacey Clark. “There was good offensive and defensive communication with the players really having each other’s back with a great start to the season.
