On April 20, Lomira softball beat Winneconne 9-2 at home in the non-conference matchup.
Lomira’s (6-0) Trista Gassner started the game with a leadoff single before Lily Christian provided a thunderous three-run home run to center, giving the home crowd a jolt and a 3-0 lead over Winneconne (2-8).
The Wolves scored a run in the top of the third inning to close the gap to 3-1 going into the bottom of the inning, when Izzy Westphal led off the Lions’ portion of the inning with a leadoff double to the fence.
Christian drove in Westphal with an RBI double falling before the outfield fence to give the Lions a 4-1 lead, but the Lions weren’t done in the inning.
Addy Behnke hit a RBI single to right, and Tori Thomas followed with a two-run RBI triple with two outs to expand the Lomira lead to 7-1 over the Wolves.
Gassner hit a triple and scored in the sixth inning, and Westphal added an RBI single to push the Lomira lead to 9-1.
Lily Christian pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts to secure the 9-2 home victory.

At Laconia
On April 16, Lomira softball defeated Laconia 3-0 on the road in the battle of unbeatens at the top of the Flyway Conference.
Lomira (5-0, 3-0) got on the scoreboard first after the Lions loaded bases with two outs in the first inning, thanks to Haleigh Caspary’s RBI walk to take a 1-0 lead over Laconia (3-1, 2-1).
The Lions increased their lead over the Spartans to 2-0 in the third inning, featuring a Lily Christain RBI single to right field.
Lomira got a leadoff single from Addy Behnke, followed by a single from Trista Gassner in the fourth inning, and Behnke came around to score to push the Lions’ lead to 3-0.
Three runs of offense were all Senior Pitcher Haleigh Caspary needed to secure the 3-0 complete shutout victory by striking out nine Spartans and controlling the powerful Laconia offense to take the early lead for the Flyway Conference Championship.
Trista Gassner and Addy Behnke combined for four hits to pace the Lions’ offense in the road victory in a game that was originally scheduled to be a home game for Lomira but was changed due to the field conditions, due to the heavy rainfall during the week.
Lomira softball traveled to Omro on April 21 after print time. The Lions will travel to Campbellsport on April 23 at 5 p.m and to Waterloo on April 25 at 9 a.n. Lomira will host Springs on April 27 at 5 p.m.
