Posted

On June 4, Lomira softball lost 3-2 to the second seed, Laconia, in a high-quality Sectional Semifinal, in the rubber match between the two Flyway Conference powerhouses.
Lomira (22-4) and Laconia (22-7) came into the sectional matchup to decide who would carry the Flyway Conference banner into the Sectional Final with a level of intensity and talent of a state tournament game.
Laconia got the bases loaded in the second inning with no outs, but the Lions’ pitching, led by Nora Buske, was able to limit the potential damage by allowing only one run to the Spartans to put the score at 1-0.
The Spartans notched two runs in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 3-0 over Lomira.

The Lions showed their championship heart in the bottom of the fifth inning by loading the bases with no outs to start a potential comeback against the Spartans.
Lomira got a sac fly from Lillian Christian to center field to drive in their first run of the game to make the score 3-1 with one out in the inning.
The Lions loaded the bases back up with two outs, but Lomira wasn’t able to get another run across the plate, leaving the score at 3-1 in favor of Laconia.
Lomira’s offense got going again in the sixth inning when Izzy Westphal scored from second base to tighten the game at 3-2 with one out on the ledger.
The Spartans were able to get the final two outs of the inning with two runners in scoring position for Lomira to keep the score at 3-2 in favor of the visiting Spartans.
The Lions weren’t able to score a run during their batting opportunities in the seventh inning, leaving their home diamond with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss for the team.
Savanna Frea led the Lomira offense with three hits in the sectional matchup for the Lions.
The sectional loss for Lomira marks the end of tremendous four-year careers for the trio of seniors Taylor Bloohm, Nora Buske, and Savanna Frea, who led them to their first-ever conference championship and first regional championship since 2021 by having a dominating 2025 season, scoring 10+ runs in 11 games, and having nine shutouts.
