On April 17, Lomira softball beat Campbellsport 11-3 in the matchup of the two Flyway Conference foes.
Lomira (6-2, 3-1) scored two runs in the first inning after they loaded bases with two outs against Campbellsport (2-6, 0-4) when Trista Gassner and Nora Buske crossed the plate.
The Lions’ offense continued to show their strength in the second inning with four more runs, highlighted by a Savanna Frea RBI double and a Buske RBI single to take a 6-0 lead over the Cougars.
Lillian Christian increased the Lomira lead to 7-0 with an RBI single in the fourth inning before Campbellsport scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Lions.
Lomira scored three runs in the sixth inning, with two of the runs coming after Campbellsport had two outs on the Lions, featuring an RBI double by Brianna Frea to take a 10-2 lead for Lomira.
The two teams traded runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and seventh inning to make the final score 11-3, with the Lions walking away with the conference win.
Haleigh Caspary and Nora Buske combined to limit the Cougars’ offense to two hits with 11 strikeouts from the pitching mound.
Savanna Frea, Trista Gassner, and Buske combined for 10 hits to power the Lions’ offense in the victory.
Vs NFDL
On April 15, Lomira softball beat NFDL 16-1 in five innings in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Lomira’s (6-2, 3-1) offense started off in impressive fashion in the first inning over NFDL (2-2, 2-2) by scoring four runs, highlighted by the Frea sisters with Savanna getting a two-run RBI triple and RBI single by Brianna for a 4-0 lead.
The Lions’ offense didn’t slow down in the second inning when Lomira scored five more runs, featuring a two-run RBI triple from Haleigh Caspary and RBI singles from S. Frea and Taylor Bloohm to push their lead to 9-0 over the Orioles.
NFDL scored their only run of the game in the top of the third inning, which was followed by Lomira’s potent offensive lineup scoring three more runs thanks to an RBI triple from Bloohm and an RBI single from Caspary to extend their lead to 12-1 after three innings.
Lomira was able to score four more runs in the fourth inning with a two-run RBI single from Nora Buske, and then Caspary got an RBI single to secure the 16-1 victory for the Lions in four innings.
Nora Buske’s 10 strikeouts from the pitching mound shut down NFDL during the contest, and the Lions’ offense got 17 hits with three triples and a double coming from their powerful offense in their win.
Lomira softball traveled to Mayville on April 22 and hosts Omro on April 24 with game time at 5 p.m. Then the Lions travel to Waterloo on April 26 at 9 a.m. and to Springs on April 28 at 5 p.m.
