Lomira Softball Has Another Dominating Week with Five Wins

On April 28, Lomira softball beat Springs 13-3 in five innings with an impressive team win to stay a top of the Flyway conference.
Lomira (11-2, 6-1) got the first run across home plate when Trista Gassner scored to take a 1-0 lead over Springs (10-4, 5-2) on the road before the Ledgers tied up the score in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lions offense continued to get into full swing with three runs in the second inning, featuring RBI doubles from Lillian Christian and Eleanor Collies to take a 4-1 lead over Springs.
Lomira was able to get three runs on the scoreboard in the three inning highlighted by Savanna Frea double and a Haleigh Caspary RBI single to push their lead out to 7-1 which proceeded the Ledgers scoring a run in their portion of the third inning to try to inch closer with a score of 7-2 after three innings in the Flyway conference battle.

The Lions scored a run in the fourth inning to set up their explosive offense by showing off their mighty bats with five runs scored in the fifth inning after Lomira got the bases loaded, looking to increase their lead against the Ledgers.
Nora Buske ripped a two-run RB1 single with the bases loaded to give the Lions a 10-2 lead, when S. Frea crushed a three-run home run over the center field fence, giving Lomira a commanding 13-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Springs scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wasn’t enough because Lomira had scored 10+ runs for the eighth time on the season and went home with a 13-3 conference road win.
Savanna Frea and Nora Buske combined for six runs batted in to pace the offense, and Buske and Haleigh Caspary held the Springs batting order in check with eight strikeouts from the pitching circle in the five-inning win.
Game Two vs Mineral Point
On April 26, Lomira softball defeated Mineral Point 7-2 to finish up a successful trip to Waterloo on the last Saturday in April.
Lomira (11-2) trailed Mineral Point (8-4) 1-0 after the first inning before the Lions got the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the third inning.
The Lions got their offense going with a single to center field by Savanna Frea with two outs, resulting in two runs coming across the plate for Lomira in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Pointers.
Lomira’s S. Frea hit a triple in the sixth inning, and she scored in the inning to increase the Lions’ lead to 3-1.
The Lions tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 7-1, highlighted by a Nora Buske two-run RBI double for Lomira.
Mineral Point was able to score one run in the bottom of the seventh inning after being held in check with 11 strikeouts by Lomira starter Haleigh Caspary during her seven innings in the pitching circle for the Lions’ 7-2 win.
Savanna Frea paced the offense with two hits to drive in two runs, plus Nora Buske’s two runs batted in for Lomira in the victory.
Game One at Waterloo
On April 26, Lomira softball beat Waterloo 10-0 in six innings to start their day at the Waterloo Triangular.
Lomira (11-2) got their potent offense going by scoring two runs in the first inning over Waterloo (6-4) thanks to a two-run RBI single from Taylor Bloohm for a 2-0 lead.
Waterloo had their best scoring chance in the bottom of the first inning with runners on second and third base before starting pitcher Nora Buske got the final out of the inning with a fly out.
The Lions’ offense started to wake up again in the fifth inning with a single by Izzy Westphal, who scored on a Buske sac fly, and then back-to-back doubles with two outs by Savanna Frea and Bloohm, who drove in S. Frea to make the score 4-0 for Lomira.
Lomira’s offensive bats came out swinging in the sixth with a sac fly from Kennedy Goebel and a Trista Gassner RBI single to put the score at 6-0 before Waterloo got two outs on the Lions.
Waterloo couldn’t get out of the inning before S. Frea raked a triple into the outfield, resulting in two more runs for the Lions, which was followed by a Bloohm RBI single and Lillian Christian’s second hit of the inning for the final run in the inning giving Lomira at least ten runs in a game for the seventh time on the season with the 10-0 lead.
The pitching combo of Nora Buske and Alaina Lindert combined to shutout the Pirates for the Lions’ sixth shutout of the season.
The Lions were paced by Taylor Bloohm’s three hits, resulting in four teammates scoring off her hits, plus Savanna Frea’s two extra-base hits in Lomira’s 10-0 victory.
Vs Omro
On April 24, Lomira softball beat Omro 13-0 in five innings for their fifth shutout win of the season.
Lomira (11-2, 6-1) scored four runs in the first inning against Omro (0-11, 0-6) without getting a hit after two singles by Trista Gassner and Nora Buske to start the inning to take a 4-0 lead.
The Lions got the bases loaded in the third inning, which allowed them to score four more runs against the Foxes, highlighted by a Gassner two-run RBI double to extend the Lomira lead to 8-0.
Lomira’s offense continued their explosive ways in the fourth inning by scoring five runs, featuring a Taylor Bloohm two-run blast over the left field fence to help push the Lions’ lead over Omro to secure the 13-0 win in five innings.
Nora Buske paced the Lions from the pitching circle by striking out 11 Omro batters in four innings, and Trista Gassner sparked the offense with three hits for the sixth time, scoring more than ten runs in a game.
At Mayville
On April 22, Lomira softball beat Mayville 2-0 on the road in an important Flyway Conference matchup.
Lomira (11-2, 6-1) and Mayville (9-3, 5-2) were both scoreless until Taylor Bloohm hit a solo home run over the left field fence to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
The Lions added a second run with a Brianna Frea RBI double to increase the Lomira lead to 2-0 in the second inning.
The rest of the game was a pitching display from the Lions duo of Haleigh Caspary and Nora Buske, going pitch for pitch against Mayville’s starter Allie Schwirtz, with both teams only finding six hits combined against the quality pitching in the pitching circle.
Lomira was able to secure the 2-0 win thanks to Caspary and Buske combining to strike out 11 Cardinal batters to tie the teams for second place in the Flyway.
“It is always a battle with Mayville, with our defense showing some grit and coming up with some big plays,” said Head Coach Stacey Clark. “Our pitching was solid, our bats showed up when they needed to, and our team brought great energy in this fun game.”
Lomira softball traveled to WLA on April 29 and hosts Laconia on May 1. The Lions travel to NFDL on May 5, with all first pitches scheduled for 5 p.m.
