On May 19, Lomira softball defeated Springs 11-1 in five innings on senior day for Nora Buske, Taylor Bloohm, and Savanna Frea.
Lomira (18-3, 11-2) scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead over Springs (14-9, 8-5), highlighted by a Bloohm two-run RBI single for the Lions.
Springs scored their only run of the game in the second before Izzy Westphal started off the bottom of the second inning with a triple, and the Lions were able to score four runs in the inning, featuring a RBI single from Haleigh Caspary, to help Lomira take a 7-1 lead over the Ledgers.
The Lions' bats continued to stay hot in the fifth inning with an Eleanor Collies triple, which was followed by RBI singles from Westphal and S. Frea to push their lead to 9-1 for the Lions.
Caspary was able to finish off the game with a two-run RBI single in the fifth inning for an 11-1 conference win to get Lomira one win away from a share of the Flyway Conference title with Laconia.
Lomira was led by Haleigh Caspary and Taylor Bloohm, combining for six runs batted in the conference victory.
Vs Mayville
On May 13, Lomira softball beat Mayville 9-1 in the conference matchup, featuring two of the three teams tied for first place in the Flyway Conference with 9-2 records.
Lomira (18-3, 11-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning over Mayville (14-6, 9-4), highlighted by Trista Gassner and Savanna Frea scoring runs for the Lions.
The Lions broke open the game in the fifth inning with doubles hit by Gassner, Nora Buske driving in one run on her double, and Taylor Bloohm driving in two runs with a double to center to increase the Lomira lead to 5-0 over Mayville.
Brianna Frea knocked in the final run in the inning with two outs to give the Lions a commanding 6-0 for Lomira after five innings.
Lomira’s powerful offense showed off their bats again in the sixth inning, started by an Izzy Westphal double, which was followed by three RBI singles from Gassner, S. Frea, and Bloohm to expand the Lions’ lead to 9-0 against the Cardinals.
Mayville scored their only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 9-1, with Lomira securing their 14th win in their last 15 games.
Trista Gassner and Savanna Frea combined to score six runs, with Taylor Bloohm leading the way with four runs batted in for the Lions in the important conference win.
Nora Buske and Haleigh Caspary were dominating from the pitching circle by combining to strike out 13 Mayville batters in the contest.
Lomira softball traveled to Omro on May 20 for a make-up game due to the severe weather on May 15 to finish up their regular season schedule. The Lions’ softball team received a one seed and a first-round bye in the WIAA Division 3 Softball Tournament. Lomira will play their second round game against the winner of No. 9 Ripon and No. 8 WLA on May 27.
