March 14-16, the Lomira competition robotics program had all three of their teams participate in the Wisconsin State VEX Robotics Championships at the Resch Expo in Green Bay.
Lomira’s Mane Attraction, team 1570M, rose to the top of the middle school competition, winning the state championship and receiving the excellence award, which is given to the top overall program for their engineering design, documentation, team interview skills, and elite competition performance, under the direction of first-year program advisor Henry Hathaway.
This is the first time that a robotics team from Lomira was able to win a state championship or an excellence award at the state competition.
“We are proud of our middle school team (Abram Keiler, Prentice Reitz, CJ Binkelman, Della Emmer, Sammie Rhodes, and Makenna Casper) with the work that they put into the preparation, which began last June,” said robotics coach Chris Keiler. “They were able to rise to the top of the competition with their mantra of ‘never being outworked’ and will have an opportunity to participate at the VEX Robotics World Championships in May for the second straight year.”
Lomira’s most experienced team, 1570A, received the Judges’ Award despite facing a difficult tournament match schedule at the state championships.
“We appreciate their leadership and mentorship that they provided to our other teams during the season and the seniors will be greatly missed,” said Keiler. “Lastly, we would like to thank our local sponsors, Jor-Mac, Muza Metal Products, Kondex, Schraufnagel Implement, Ledge Games, and Amcor, for their financial support of our program this year.”
