On June 17, Taylor Bloohm, Nora Buske, and Savanna Frea played their final high school softball game together at the Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells in the WFSCA all-star.
When did you start playing softball?
“I started playing when I was seven years old, and this was the year I was introduced to pitching, not thinking that I would do this throughout all of my years playing,” said Nora Buske.
“I started softball when I was five and have been playing travel softball since I was nine,” said Taylor Bloohm.
“I started playing t-ball when I was three or four and joined softball early in elementary around age seven, “ said Savanna Frea
Favorite softball moments:
“One of my favorite moments in my high school career was this year when, during my first at-bat, I hit my first high school career home run,” said Buske. “Another favorite moment was beating Mayville for the first time since my freshman year.”
“My favorite moments are hitting a walk-off home run against Oakfield during freshman year, beating Mayville for the first time since my freshman year this year, and hitting a walk-off home run to win 9-8 against NFDL in 2024,” said Bloohm.
“My favorite moments include my first home run, my last travel ball tournament, getting to play softball in Colorado and California, and getting an all-state award,” said Frea.
Why is softball important?
“Softball is important to me because it represents more than just a sport; it is a way to challenge, build confidence, and connect with my teammates,” said Buske. “I love playing softball because it taught me what true failure is by responding to...the failure, and softball is a space where I feel strong, happy, and focused by being part of something bigger than myself.”
“Softball is important to me because it has taught me valuable skills like overcoming hardships and working together as a team,” said Bloohm. “It has also brought me to some of my best friends.”
“Softball has impacted my life ever since I was a little kid by playing travel ball [which] allowed me to make countless new friends and memories, and has been the sport that I have always loved playing,” said Frea. “Softball was my life every summer, and I wouldn’t have changed anything about that.”
Biggest influences on you during your softball career:
“I would like to start with my parents because they have pushed [me] to be the best person and player I can be,” said Buske. “The other influences throughout my softball career were Steve Pilner, Stacey Clark, Jess Gassner, Jason Buerger, and Bobbi Doyle.”
“My biggest influences are my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m super grateful that they’ve pushed me to my limits,” said Bloohm. “My coaches have taught me so many things by pushing me to my limits, and my teammates for always being there and supporting me.
“My biggest influences during my career are my parents, who have always pushed me to be my best, and they have always been there for me during games and practices,” said Frea.
Future plans in softball:
“I will continue my softball career playing at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where I will continue to pitch and play the outfield,” said Buske.
“I’m going to Winona State to continue to play softball,” said Bloohm.
“I don’t plan to play softball in college, but I may play club ball or join an intramural at UW-Madison,” said Frea.
“All three players are very deserving of this award, and I am excited for them to have the opportunity to play together one more time after playing varsity together for four years with the best of the best in the state,” said Head Coach Stacey Clark. “This experience is a fun way to showcase their softball careers.”
