On September 25, the Lomira girls’ cross country team finished in first place with 55 points to win the Horicon River Run, and the boys’ team finished in 18th place with 314 points at River Bend Park.
“Leading the way was sophomore Whitney Witkowski, who clocked an impressive 20:45.3 to secure fifth overall, with just steps behind her was junior Hanna Faber, who ran a personal record of 20:50.7 for sixth place, and Josie Christian (seventh place at 20:57.6) giving Lomira three runners inside the top ten,” said Head Coach Tyler Witkowski.
“Our girls really came ready to compete today,” Witkowski said. “To win such a large meet and set multiple season and personal bests shows how hard they’ve been working.”
“The team’s pack running proved key, with just 1:13 separating their top five runners,” said Witkowski. “With momentum building, the Lions look to carry their success to the end of the season.”
“I felt like we were pushing each other the whole way,” said Hanna Faber. “Having teammates so close in the race makes you stronger.”
“Cleary and Luke really set the tone today,” said Witkowski. “Both of them dropped time, and you could see their confidence growing with each mile.”
“Matthew’s been a steady leader for us,” Witkowski said. “And it’s exciting to see our younger guys like Billy stepping right into varsity roles.”
“This meet had a lot of competition, and it really pushed us,” said Witkowski. “We know where we stand, but we also know we’re improving every week.”
Lomira cross country will travel to Slinger on October 2 at 4 p.m.
