On October 16, the Lomira girls’ cross country team won the Flyway Conference championship in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history with 38 points, and a second-place finish led by Josie Christian, a fourth-place finish by Whitney Witkowski, and a sixth-place finish by Hanna Faber at the Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Fond du Lac.
“The Lions delivered a dominant team performance, with all seven varsity runners earning All-Conference honors and most setting new personal records,” said Head Coach Tyler Witkowski.
•First Team All-Conference: Josie Christian, Whitney Witkowski, and Hanna Faber
•Second Team All-Conference: Izzy Westphal and Kennedy Goebel
•Honorable Mention All-Conference: Elinorah Langjahr and Tori Thomas
“We talked a lot about race strategy before the meet, and every runner did exactly what needed to be done together as a team,” Witkowski said. “To have your entire top seven earn All-Conference honors, and that’s every coach’s dream.”
“Having our top seven runners place that well made all the difference in locking up the championship for the second straight year,” said Assistant Coach Corey Bauer.
“The Lomira JV girls also ran away with the JV Conference Championship. Sophomores Liberty Luedtke and Amara Keiler led the charge, finishing 1st and 2nd,” said Witkowski.
The Lomira boys’ cross country finished in ninth place with 211 points at the conference meet.
“The most exciting part was that nearly every runner achieved either a personal or season record at the Conference Meet,” said Coach Witkowski.
Lomira cross country will travel to Sheboygan Lutheran on October 25 for their Division 3 WIAA Sectional, with the boys’ meet starting at 10:45 a.m. and the girls’ meet scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start time.
