Lomira Girls Cross Country Finishes Third in a Strong Field at Mayville

Posted

On September 12, the Lomira girls’ cross country team finished in third place with 81 points at the Mike Hurlburt Invite, and the boys’ team finished in 12th place with 320 points.
“I came into the race not knowing how the girls would do after a rigorous week of practice, but the athletes responded impressively, with our top five runners only running about a minute apart, which is fabulous for our team,” said Head Coach Tyler Witkowski.
“Josie Christian led the team, crossing the finish line in ninth place out of a field of 121 runners, earning her a medal with Whitney Witkowski and Hanna Faber finishing in 13th and 14th,” said Coach Witkowski.
“I was pleased with having many of our runners set a season record at this course, including Josie, Kennedy, Liberty, and Norah, with a season personal best,” said Witkowski. “The ladies responded well as a team after a tough week of practice, and it is neat to see the girls push each other and run well as a team.”

“Luke had one of his strongest last miles of his races so far with setting a personal record for time,” said Witkowski. “We have a very young team, and their work ethic is great to see by supporting each other on and off the course.”
Lomira cross country will travel to Berlin on September 16 at 4:30 p.m. and to Ripon on September 20 at 9 a.m.
