Lomira Girls Cross Country Dodge County Invitational Champions

Posted

On September 4, the Lomira girls’ cross country team won the Dodge County Invitational with 19 points at Horicon, and the boys finished in fourth place with 100 points.
“The Lomira girls cross country team delivered a dominating performance at the Dodge County Invite with ten Lions athletes medaling on the day, showcasing both depth and determination while multiple runners posted personal records,” said Head Coach Tyler Witkowski.
“Leading the way was Whitney Witkowski, who clocked a time of 20:24 to finish third overall, with Hanna Faber (21:17, personal record) and Josie Christian (21:19) adding crucial scoring finishes in fourth and fifth place,” said Witkowski. “Isabel Westphal (22:10, 9th) and Kennedy Goebel (22:46, 10th) rounded out the top five, sealing the team title. Tori Thomas (24:05, PR, 18th) added another strong run to the medal count.”
“This was a complete team performance with everyone stepping up, whether it was setting personal records or running strong through the middle of the race,” said Witkowski. “That depth is what makes us competitive.”

“Junior Cleary Twohig led the Lions, finishing 14th overall with a personal-best 21:26, and freshman Luke Unruh followed close behind in 15th overall, also setting a PR with 21:35,” said Witkowski.
“We saw a lot of gutsy racing today. The guys are starting to understand pack running and how important it is to close gaps late in the race,” said Witkowski. “I really enjoy coaching this team, because they just keep improving and work hard every day.”
At Iola-Scandinavia
On September 2, the Lomira girls’ cross-country team finished in first place with 40 points at the T-Bird Invitational in Iola-Scandinavia, and the boys’ team finished in tenth place with 236 points.
“Leading the charge at the Iola meet was sophomore Whitney Witkowski, who finished an impressive second out of 123 runners,” said Head Coach Tyler Witkowski. “Sophomore Josie Christian finished strong, crossing the finish line in sixth place, closely followed by junior Hanna Faber in seventh.”
“Having your top five runners finish in the top fifteen at this meet is impressive,” said Witkowski.
“We had junior Cleary Twohig join the team, helping our front pack run together,” said Witkowski. “This boys’ team works extremely hard every day. We had multiple runners shave over a minute off their time from last week, and I am just proud of this team’s work and improvement.”
Lomira cross country travels to Mayville on September 12 at 4 p.m.
