On November 21, Lomira defeated Kewaskum 62-42 in their season opener in the non-conference matchup.
Kewaskum’s (1-1) Cameron Boelte made a three-pointer to start the game, giving the Indians an early 3-0 lead in the game.
The Indians continued their hot shooting from long range with four more three-pointers, including three made by Anna Parish to give Kewaskum a 17-7 lead with 14 minutes on the first half clock.
Josie and Lily Christian scored a basket apiece to bring the Lions within eight points with a score of 20-12, before Lily Prost made her second consecutive long bomb for three points to extend the Kewaskum lead back to 23-12 at the eight-minute mark in the first half.
Lomira got a strong post-up finish from J. Christian and a three-pointer from Whitney Witkowski to close the gap against the Indians at 23-19.
The Christian cousins (Josie & Lily) combined for the final six points in the first half to give the Lions a 27-26 halftime lead.
The Lions got heated up from three-point range early in the second half with threes from Kennedy Goebel, J. Christian, and L. Christian to extend their lead to 40-31 at the 11:27 mark in the second half.
Kewaskum tried to fight back in the second half by getting within eight points at 42-34 before the Lions went on a 7-0 scoring run featuring four points from J. Christian and another three-pointer from Goebel to increase the Lions’ lead up to 49-34.
The two teams traded points to put the score at 53-38 before Lomira went on a 9-4 run to close out the 62-42 non-conference win.
Josie Christian led the Lions with an impressive 30 points, scoring on all levels of the court to start her sophomore campaign in the victory.
“Once we settled down a little bit, our team really came together and played well for our first game, and it was great to come away with a win,” said Head Coach Liz Cook. “We talk about having a team approach to scoring because we can’t assume Josie will have those types of nights each game, with each person bringing a unique skill set for our offense, and when they have opportunities, everyone needs to take them.”
Lomira girls’ basketball hosted Horicon on November 25 after print time in the boys and girls doubleheader.
