On December 11, Lomira girls basketball beat St. Mary’s Springs Academy 60-45 at home in their Flyway conference contest.
Lomira (6-1, 2-1) held a 10-9 lead over Springs (2-4, 1-2) before Josie Christian scored seven straight points, plus Kennedy Goebel knocked down a three-pointer for a 20-11 lead over the Ledgers.
Springs got within four points at 20-16 when the dynamic duo of J. Christian and Goebel combined for the next 15 points for the Lions pushed Lomira to a 35-27 halftime lead.
The Lions held a 41-33 lead in the second half when Lomira took control of the game with J.Christian scoring nine points and her teammates converted three offensive rebounds into six points to expand their lead to 58-7 over the Ledgers.
Lomira finished off the last few minutes of the game to go home with a convincing 60-45 conference win.
Josie Christian is leading the way as always by scoring in many ways on the court for 29 points, and Kennedy Goebel added 16 points in the victory.
At Ripon
On December 9, Lomira girls’ basketball defeated Ripon 75-43 in their non-conference matchup on a snowy winter night.
Lomira (5-1) came out with a 6-0 early lead over Ripon (1-5), even though leading scorer Josie Christian was being face-guarded by the Tigers’ defense.
The Lions held a 13-7 lead when Whitney Witkowski knocked down a corner three-pointer set up by a nice pass by Oelysea Olig.
J. Christian hit a three from the corner for a 16-9 lead for the Lions, then Kennedy Goebel and J. Christian scored eight points to take a 26-13 lead before Lily Christian drained a nice three-point shot from the wing to maintain their 13-point lead at 29-16.
The Lions didn’t let up on the Tigers when J. Christian scored off a steal and converted another fast break opportunity into four points, with Goebel getting another basket before J. Christian is hitting a floater in the lane to put the Lomira lead at 39-21 at halftime.
Goebel scored back-to-back baskets to put the Lions’ lead at 45-26, which was followed by J. Christian’s scoring display of a runner off the glass and a three-pointer from the wing, which was set up by nice kick-back play from Goebel to extend their lead to 51-26.
Lomira wasn’t done with impressive play with L. Christian hitting two consecutive baskets and J. Christian pulling up on a dime to swish a three-point shot for the Lions to give them a 60-30, thus removing any hope for the Tigers in the game.
The Lions finished the rest of the game to gain a 75-43 non-conference win with Josie Christian scoring 24 points in the victory.
Lomira girls basketball traveled to Markesan on December 16 after print time, and then the Lions will play at Mayville on December 19 at 7 p.m.
