On August 28, Lomira football won 24-0 over Milwaukee King for their second consecutive home shutout to start the 2026 football season.
Lomira (2-0) took the opening drive 62 yards in eight plays, with the possession ending in a nine-yard rushing touchdown from Hunter Schaumberg giving the Lions a 7-0 lead over Milwaukee King at the 6:12 mark in the first quarter.
The Lions defense set the tone on King’s first offensive play when Mason Schlevan burst through the King’s Offensive Line, leading to a sack by Cash Agamaite and a forced fumble by the King's quarterback.
Lomira stopped King on fourth down after getting tackles for losses from Linebacker Jackson Breitlow and Defensive Lineman Brant Lindert, giving the ball back to the Lions offense at their own 44-yard line.
Schaumberg (88 rushing yards and 60 receiving yards) scored his second touchdown of the game on a three-yard rush to increase the Lomira lead to 14-0 with 5:29 left in the first half.
“We were efficient again on the offensive side of the ball by executing at a fairly high level and were able to control the line of scrimmage to open up running lanes for our skill guys,” said Head Coach Bryan Gregory. “Our goal was to control the clock and keep the ball in our hands to keep our defense fresh.
Linebacker Cole Geiger intercepted the ball for the Lions two plays after Lomira's touchdown, giving the ball back to the Lions' offense at the Generals' 13-yard line.
The Lions wasted no time, with Quarterback Keegan Kell (59 rushing yards and 93 passing yards) scoring on a 11-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the Lomira lead to 21-0 at the 3:08 mark in the second half.
Lomira’s defense shut down the King’s last offensive possession after a 43-yard pass play for the Generals, when Schaumberg blew up a screen pass for a six-yard loss, sending the Lions into halftime with a 21-0 lead.
The Lions defense showed their strength again after the Generals connected on a 50-yard pass to give them some hope, which was taken away by the strong play of the defensive line led by Agamite and Schelvan, who helped Lomira rack up 14 tackles for loss in the game.
“Defense played exceptional again tonight because we played physical and made them work for everything,” said Gregory. “For the second straight week our offense was set up with great field position thanks to our defense and special teams.”
Lomira stopped King’s best offensive drive of the game on fourth down when Alex Zahn made a good tackle from his defensive back position, ending the Generals' scoring threat at the Lomira 13-yard line.
Lomira had a long drive of 84 yards, chewing up almost ten minutes of game time, resulting in an Aiden Stoffel 21-yard field goal, giving Lomira a 24-0 lead with 10:26 left in the game.
Lomira’s defense controlled the rest of the game, with Brenden Steinke sealing the win with an interception, giving the Lions a 24-0 win to start their season 2-0 heading into next week’s conference schedule against Campbellsport.
“We were tested tonight and came together against a good Milwaukee King team,” said Senior Quarterback Keegan Kell. “Hunter and I sometimes weren’t touched until ten yards down the field behind the best offensive line in the state.”
“Great team win for us, and it all started up front with the dominant play on the offensive and defensive lines,” said Gregory. “They set the tone from the opening play and helped us settle in early on.”
Lomira Football will play at Campbellsport on September 4 at 7 p.m.
