Lomira Cross Country Season Preview
Head Coach: Tyler Witkowski
“The boys team continues to build and develop. One strength is that we are increasing numbers and adding younger runners,” said Head Coach Tyler Witkowski.
“With that said, the girls program also continues to increase in numbers but also returns everybody from last year’s conference championship and state qualifying team, so for the girls, experience and consistency could be a strength of our team,” said Witkowski.
“Our focus is always on the individual working hard and improving every practice every day every meet,” said Witkowski. “If our individual runners continue to develop and get stronger and better, our team performance will also hopefully improve.”
“I believe our boys team will improve on their conference standings last year and I believe our girls will be able to compete for our conference championship again,” said Witkowski.
The boys team will return senior Jesse Schaumburg, sophomore Luke Unruh and Billy Stuever.
The girls are returning everybody from last year’s team, of which seven were all-conference.
“I’m not going to list them as I don’t want to forget any of the very important pieces we have on the girls team,” said Witkowski.
“Cross country is a unique sport; teams in the conference change weekly sometimes,” said Witkowski. “We truly just tried to control our own team and try and get better every day and whatever the team results happen.”
“The schedule is pretty much stayed the same and we will race at Palmyra Eagle the first race which usually gives us a good indication of our team strength and then we had to Iola, which goes and races against some of the better D3 teams in the north, and we made a change in our schedule to run at the nightfall race in Green Lake, which has some of the best competition in the state,” said Witkowski.
