Lomira Boys Basketball Wins Two Conference Games on the Road

Posted

On December 12, Lomira boys basketball beat Campbellsport 56-54 in a close Flyway conference matchup for the two rivals.
Lomira (4-0, 3-0) tied the game at 14 in the first half when Blake Steger converted an old-fashioned play for the Lions against Campbellsport (0-4, 0-3).
Jackson Bloohm stole the ball and dashed down the court, then threw down a very athletic dunk in his first game of the season to energize the gym and especially his Lions’ teammates to put the score at 25-18 in favor of the Cougars at halftime.
The Lions’ defense rose to the challenge when they were down 33-23 by applying full-court pressure, which fueled a 17-3 scoring stretch highlighted by Keegan Kell’s three-pointer at the top of the key and a very sweet behind-the-back bounce pass from Hunter Duley to Steger for a layup to put Lomira up 40-36 in the contest.

Campbellsport wouldn’t go away in this contest, with the Cougars trailing only by one point. Kell knocked a three-pointer to increase the Lions’ lead to 45-41 with 5:30 on the game clock.
Lomira was leading 54-44 with two minutes left after back-to-back baskets from Jake Broeske and Steger.
The Cougars knocked down three-pointers in the final minute of the game before Campbellsport made their last three-pointer with the clock running out for the Lions to secure the very tight 56-54 conference victory.
Blake Steger led the Lions with 15 points, and Keegan Kell added 13 points in the rivalry matchup.
“We learned a lot of lessons in the game,” said Head Coach Nick Kohler. “I am proud of the way we fought back, and the lessons were learned in a win.
At Laconia
On December 9, the Lomira boys basketball team beat Laconia 56-44 on the road in the Flyway conference on a snowy winter night.
Lomira (4-0, 3-0) got out to an 11-4 lead over Laconia (2-2, 1-2), highlighted by Jake Broeske’s finish on a lob pass for the Lions.
The Spartans closed the gap against the Lions before a Keegan Kell jumper, and Broeske’s offensive rebound to put the score in favor of Lomira at 17-9.
Senior point guard Hunter Duley knocked a three-pointer off a kick-out pass from Broeske to give the Lions a 20-12 lead before seeing halftime come with Lomira ahead at 25-19.
Lomira got six early second points from Broeske to extend their lead to 33-26 over the Spartans before the Lions’ defense took over the game by going on a 13-2 scoring stretch featuring a Maddox Bodden three-pointer in the corner and capped off by a basket from Blake Steger to take a 46-28 lead for Lomira.
The Lions were able to maintain their lead the rest of the game to secure a 56-44 conference victory on the road, with Jake Broeske leading the way with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
“I thought it was a great road win because we knew they were going to throw some different things at us and were happy with how we communicated and adjusted on offense,” said Head Coach Nick Kohler.
Lomira boys basketball hosted Springs on December 16 after print time, and then the Lions will welcome Kewaskum to the Lions Den on December 19 at 7:15 p.m.
