On December 19, Lomira boys’ basketball beat Kewaskum 84-48 in another impressive win for the Lions in the non-conference matchup.
Lomira (6-0) had a 42-29 halftime lead over Kewaskum (2-5) in the Lions’ Den on youth night for the basketball program.
The Lions took control in the second half of the game by outscoring the Indians 42-19 to secure their sixth consecutive win to start the season.
Lomira was led by Keegan Kell and Charile Cole, with scored 20 points apiece, including each guard knocking down four three-pointers each in the 36-point win for Lomira.
Jake Broeske continued his strong play in the post with 18 points in the non-conference victory for the Lions.
Carter Unger led Kewaskum with 15 points in the contest.
“I am proud of the way we competed in both halves against Kewaskum,” said Head Coach Nick Kohler. “It was the first game we won in both halves of the game.”
The schedule gets tougher over the next few weeks, and there will be some good tests to see where we are,” said Kohler.
Vs Springs
On December 16, the Lomira boys’ basketball team defeated Springs 87-68 in a dominating conference home win.
Lomira (6-0, 4-0) scored 14 consecutive points, highlighted by two three-pointers from Keegan Kell after Springs (2-4, 2-2) scored the first three points of the game, giving the Lions a 14-3 lead.
The Lions didn’t slow down when Jake Broeske started to take over on the offensive end with six points and another Kell three-pointer, including Blake Steger with two strong finishes at the rim to expand Lomira’s lead to 39-14 in the first half.
Broeske took advantage of his size and skill in the paint for Lomira to push the Lions to a 47-21, dominant halftime lead.
Steger scored the first two baskets for the Lions in the second half when Broeske showed off his inside and outside game with a three-point make from the wing, which was followed by senior point guard splashing down two consecutive three-pointers to give Lomira a commanding 64-31 lead.
Lomira got a fastbreak layup from Steger to continue their overall impressive play on both ends of the court, with the Lions leading the game at 68-33 at the mid-point of the second half.
The Lions were able to cruise to an 87-68 statement conference win over Springs, which has won three of the last four Flyway conference championships.
Jake Broeske had a strong showing with 25 points and 13 rebounds, with Hunter Duley adding 11 points and 8 assists in the conference victory.
The Lomira boys basketball team played at Waupun on December 23 after print time.
