Lomira Boys Basketball Outlasts Mayville in Conference Matchup

On January 28, Lomira boys basketball beat Mayville boys basketball 63-48 in their conference matchup between the two rivals.
Lomira (11-3, 6-2) jumped out to an 8-1 lead over Mayville (4-11, 2-6) after three-point makes from Hunter Duley and Charlie Cole.
The Cardinals got a basket from Joren Schlender to close the gap on the scoreboard to 14-9, in favor of the Lions.
The Lions went on a 12-1 scoring run, featuring three-pointers from Jackson Goebel and Keegan Kell, to extend Lomira’s lead to 26-10.
Mayville showed their mettle as a team by scoring ten consecutive points, finished off by Talan Meyer making his second three-point shot of the game, to put the score at 26-20.

Lomira got a breakaway layup right before the halftime buzzer from Duley to give the Lions a 28-20 halftime lead.
The Lions used an efficient offense with good, crisp ball movement to get open shots against Mayville’s defense by converting three-pointers from Kell, Duley, Cole, and Goebel to push out their lead to 46-25 in the second half.
Blake Steger finished off an offensive rebound for two points to further the Lions’ lead to 53-28 over the hosting Cardinals.
Mayville battled their way closer into the game with a 16-3 scoring stretch, highlighted by a strong finish by Austin Thoerson on his offensive rebound in the paint for the Cardinals, to bring the score to 56-44, with Lomira in the lead.
Lomira got their final seven points from Duley and Goebel combined to close their 63-48 conference win against their Flyway Conference rival Cardinals.
“We did what we were hoping, for a longer portion of the game, but we are still learning to play without Jake,” said Head Coach Dan Domask.
Hunter Duley’s 17 points and Jackson Goebel’s 13 points led the way for Lomira in the matchup.
Austin Thoreson scored 13 points for Mayville to pace the Cardinals’ offense.
Lomira hosts three games during the week on February 4 against Campbellsport after print time, February 6 against Random Lake at 6 p.m., and February 7 against NFDL at 7 p.m.
Mayville traveled to Laconia on February 4 and travels to Springs on February 7 with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
