Lomira Baseball Wins Home Opener to Start Their Season

Posted

On April 3, Lomira baseball beat Winneconne 10-0 in six innings in their home opener to start the 2025 season.
Lomira (1-1) and Winneconne (1-1) were tied when Easton Zangl scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead for the Lions in the fourth inning.
The Lions were able to get out of a bases-loaded opportunity for Winneconne by allowing no runs in the top of the fifth inning.
“Dalton pitched a great game in the season opener today where he got into a few jams but continued to have the mental strength to get himself out of them, and I am proud of the way he continued to compete in every at-bat,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman.

Lomira was able to break open the 1-0 game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dalton Zingsheim hit an RBI double to get the Lions’ offense going in an inning where they scored seven runs.
The Lions’ offense continued to hit their stride in the inning by scoring the final six runs with two outs in the inning, which was highlighted by a Kolton Wagoner two-run RBI triple and an RBI double by Jackson Goebel to push the Lomira lead to 8-0 after five innings.
“Our bats were a bit slow out of the gate, but by the second time around the order, we had adjusted our approach at the plate and started to have some much better at-bats,” said Lehman.
Lomira got two more runs in the sixth inning, featuring Taylor Schaumberg scoring a wild pitch to win the game 10-0 in six innings over the Wolves.
The Lions were led by Dalton Zingsheim’s pitching performance on the mound with five strong innings by striking out seven batters, and the offense was a team effort highlighted by Zingsheim’s two doubles, plus Brody Luedtke having two hits.
“As a team, we hit the ball evenly well across the board once we got into a groove,” said Lehman. “It was nice to get out and play a game to see some of the things we need to keep working on.”
At Slinger
On April 4, Lomira baseball lost 7-3 to Slinger on the road in their non-conference matchup.
Slinger (1-0) held a 3-0 lead after three innings over Lomira (1-1) when Weston Poth hit a double to kickstart the offense and then was driven in by a single from Jackson Goebel.
Dalton Zingsheim got another RBI single for Lomira to put the score at 3-2 after four innings between the Owls and the Lions.
The Owls were able to push out their lead to 7-2 after five innings, which held up until the seventh inning when the Lions loaded the bases with an opportunity to tighten up the game.
Lomira got a run across the plate on a sac fly from Goebel to make the score 7-3 but that was the closest the Lions would get in the non-conference matchup with Slinger going home with the 7-3 victory.
The Lions were led by Dalton Zingsheim and Jack Luedtke each getting two hits apiece on the day.
Lomira baseball traveled to Omro on April 8 and travels to Markesan on April 11 at 5 p.m. The Lions host Omro on April 10 at 4:30 p.m.
