On May 19, Lomira baseball lost to WLA 3-0 at home in a rescheduled game from May 15 to split the season series against the Vikings.
WLA (11-9, 6-6) took a 1-0 lead over the Lomira (11-9, 6-6) in the first inning, which the Vikings added to their lead in the second inning with a run to make the score 2-0 after two innings.
The Vikings added the final run of the game in the fourth inning, which put the score at 3-0 in favor of WLA in front of the hosting Lions.
Lomira had one final opportunity in the game by getting the bases loaded in the seventh inning, but couldn’t get the runs across in the inning, resulting in a 3-0 WLA win.
At WLA
On May 13, Lomira baseball won 5-4 over WLA by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Lomira (11-9, 6-6) was able to manufacture runs scored by Taylor Schaumberg and Brody Luedtke to take a 2-0 lead over WLA (11-9, 6-6) in the first inning.
WLA scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take over the lead from the Lions with a score of 3-2.
Lomira got a double from B. Luedtke in the top of the third inning, but they weren’t able to capitalize with a runner in scoring position, and the Vikings scored another run in their portion of the third inning to increase their lead to 4-2 over the Lions.
The Lions were still trailing by two runs going into the final inning when Jonah Mason and Schaumberg hit singles to put runners on first and third for Lomira.
Kolton Wagoner was able to hit a double to center to drive in the two runners to tie the game at four runs apiece for the Lions and Vikings.
Lomira got a triple from B. Luedtke to center, which allowed the Lions to take a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Vikings had the tying runner on base in the bottom inning, but the Lions got a great relay from B. Luedtke in center field to Weston Poth, who fired the ball to catcher Easton Zangl to get the final out by nailing the WLA runner out at home plate, securing the 5-4 Lomira win.
Brody Luedtke and Kolton Wagoner led the way for the Lions’ offense with four hits, resulting in three RBIs in the conference win.
Lomira baseball hosted Laconia on May 20 and will travel to Laconia on May 22 with game time at 5 p.m. The Lions will then play at KML on May 23 at 4:45 p.m.
