Lomira Baseball Splits Season Series with Spartans

Posted

On April 10, Lomira baseball lost 15-3 to Oshkosh West in five innings at home to finish off a busy week for the Lions.
Oshkosh West (1-3) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning over Lomira (1-3) before Charlie Cole scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-1 after the first inning.
The Wildcats score three runs apiece in the second and third innings to increase their lead to 11-1 when Kolton Wagoner scored on a Cole RBI single for a 11-2 score in favor of Oshkosh West.
Oshkosh West closed out the game in five innings with a 15-3 non-conference win on a cooler spring day over the Lions.

“Our team is very young with very little experience, and some of that youth showed this week,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman. “We are looking to learn from our mistakes and our successes. Looking forward, we have plenty of opportunities to continue to show growth.”
At Laconia
On April 9, Lomira baseball defeated Laconia 4-3 to split the season series between the two teams to give the Lions their first win of the season on the road.
Lomira (1-3, 1-1) got the bases loaded in the first inning, which resulted in RBIs from Blake Steger and Jackson Bloohm to take an early 2-0 lead over Laconia (2-1, 1-1).
Laconia scored a run in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead over the Lions.
The Lions were facing two outs in the sixth inning when Bloohm started the potential rally with a single, and Cooper King got onto the basepaths, giving Nathan Leiter an opportunity at the plate.
Leiter responded with a double that went off the left field fence for a double, driving in two runs, giving Lomira a 4-3 lead.
“It was nice to see a Nathan step up in a big spot and give us the game-winning hit when we needed it most,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman.
Logan Wendler pitched a strong six-plus innings with seven strikeouts on the mound to lead the Lions to the 4-3 conference road win.
“We had a huge performance from Logan on the bump, and I am happy to see him take that step forward and pitch the way he did,” said Lehman.
Nathan Leiter led the Lions offense with two runs batted in for their first win of the season.
“I’m glad we were able to get our first win and first conference win of the season,” said Lehman.
Vs Laconia
On April 7, Lomira baseball lost 8-1 to Laconia in their Flyway Conference opener at home on another cool spring day.
Lomira (1-3, 1-1) scored the first run of the game when Kolton Wagoner scored in the first inning for the second consecutive game to give the Lions a 1-0 lead over Laconia (2-1, 1-1).
Laconia got the bases loaded in the second inning, but the Lions were able to get out of the inning by allowing no runs.
The Spartans got the bases loaded on two separate occasions with two outs in the third inning, but this time the Lions couldn’t get out of the inning without any damage, with Laconia scoring six runs to take a 6-1 lead over Lomira.
The Lions were able to get Charlie Cole and Wagoner in scoring position, but couldn’t get them to cross the plate, leaving the score at 6-1 after three innings.
“We wouldn’t have another scoring opportunity after that chance in the third inning,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman.
Laconia added two runs in the sixth inning to secure the 8-1 conference victory over the Lions.
Lomira baseball played at WLA on April 14 after print time. The Lions will host WLA on April 16 at 4:30 p.m. and Markesan on April 17 at 5 p.m.
