On May 28, Lomira baseball defeated Springs 6-5 on the road in the first round of the Division 3 WIAA Baseball Tournament in thrilling fashion.
Lomira (5-17) scored the first run of the game in the first inning when Jackson Bloohm scored, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead over Springs (16-9).
Springs proceeded to score the next five runs of the game to take a 5-1 lead going into the top of the seventh inning.
The Lions loaded the bases in the seventh inning with one out after a Cooper King base hit, and Dawson Casper responded with a two-run RBI single to right field to close the gap to 5-3 in favor of the Ledgers.
King scored on a passed ball, and Bloohm hit a Sac Fly to tie the game at five runs apiece between the two Flyway conference foes.
Lomira had two outs with the game tied when Charlie Cole scored on an error to give the Lions a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Casper and the Lions’ defense got the final three outs of the game and stranding the tying run at third base to advance the 13-seed Lions to the second round of the baseball tournament.
“Tonight was quite a bit of fun for the boys to have a regular season full of bumps and bruises, to then win in the first round of the playoffs was awesome to see,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman. “All of our hitters came through in the clutch in that seventh inning in some way, shape, or form.”
“We’re hoping to keep this momentum going into the next round,” said Lehman.
Lomira baseball played at fifth-seeded Horicon in the second round of the Division 3 WIAA Baseball Tournament on June 2 after print time.
