On April 11, Lomira baseball beat Markesan 11-1 in six innings on the road in their non-conference matchup.
Lomira (4-1) got on the scoreboard after two runs crossed the plate thanks to a two-run double by Dalton Zingsheim to take a 2-0 lead over Markesan (3-3).
The Hornets scored in the top of the first inning but the Lions responded in the third inning with an Easton Zangl double. Zangl then scored on Jack Luedtke’s sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Lions.
“Our pitching didn’t allow another hit after the first inning which allowed our hitters to add to our lead throughout the game,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman.
The Lions added three runs in the fourth inning, featuring RBI singles by Brody Luedtke and Zangl to increase their lead to 6-1 over Markesan.
Lomira’s batting continued in the sixth inning earning five runs, highlighted by RBI singles by Weston Poth, J. Luedtke, and Zingsheim. The inning was capped off by Kolton Wagoner’s two-RBI single to give the Lions a commanding 11-1 win in six innings over the hosting Hornets.
The Lions had four pitchers combined to limit Markesan to one run, and the Lomira offense was led by Easton Zangl, Dalton Zingsheim, and Kolton Wagoner each getting three hits in the victory.
Vs Omro
On April 10, Lomira baseball beat Omro 12-2 in five innings to sweep the two games between the two teams during the past week.
Lomira (2-0, 4-1) scored two runs in the first inning, featuring an RBI single from Weston Poth and an RBI double by Dalton Zingsheim to give the Lions a 2-0 lead over Omro (0-2, 3-2).
The Lions’ offense continued their hot start on a cool day with two runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Brody Luedtke single for an RBI to extend the lead to 4-0.
Lomira scored three more runs in the third inning led by a B. Luedtke two-run RBI single and Kolton Wagoner RBl single to push the Lions’ lead to 7-0 over the Foxes.
Zinghseim got a two-run RBI single to power the Lions’ offense, which would score in every inning of the game to help Lomira take a 10-0 lead after four innings.
Omro scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning after the Foxes secured their first hit of the game against the Lions’ starting pitcher Zingsheim after he no-hit them through the first four innings.
The Lions were able to finish off Omro in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to Zingsheim and Ty Wolff getting RBI singles to secure the 12-2 win for Lomira in five innings.
Lomira was led by Dalton Zingsheim and Brody Luedtke combing for six hits and seven RBIs which aided Zingsheim’s strong performance mound during the five innings of play.
At Omro
On April 8, Lomira baseball beat Omro 9-4 in their Flyway Conference opener.
Lomira (2-0, 4-1) got a 2-0 lead over Omro (0-2, 3-2) in the second inning, highlighted by an Easton Zangl RBI single.
The Lions’ offense really got going in the fifth inning when they got the bases loaded which resulted in four runs, featuring RBI singles by Jack Luedtke and Kolton Wagoner to give Lomira a 6-0 lead over the Foxes.
Omro scored two runs in the bottom of the inning before the Lions scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Lions.
Lomira was able to tack on two more insurance runs in the seventh inning with one run coming from a Nate Steinman RBI single to push the Lions back to 9-2.
The Foxes scored two final runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the final score 9-4 for Lomira’s conference victory.
The Lions were led by Weston Poth and Jackson Goebel limiting the Foxes to three earned runs while striking out 10 Omro batters, and the offense was paced by Easton Zangl’s three hits in the win.
“I am happy with our conference opener where we started to execute on some of the little things we have been really focusing on in practice,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman. “We are doing a better job of finding the right pitches to attack in the optimal counts, and I thought Weston pitched a great game showing all of his stuff on the mound.”
Lomira baseball hosted NFDL on April 15 and travels to NFDL on April 17 with game time at 5 p.m. Then the Lions travel to Kewaskum on April 19 for a triangular at 10 a.m. and to Kettle Moraine Lutheran on April 21 at 4:45 p.m.
