Lomira Baseball has New Varsity Head Coach

Posted

Lomira High School has hired Sid Lehman as the new varsity baseball coach to lead the team for the 2025 season.
What made you want to take the varsity job after being in the program:
Lomira has built a tradition of success, and when the job opened, I wanted to continue to be a part of that success. The players are awesome to be around day in and day out. It is really a great group of guys. I feel that after helping build the success of Lomira Baseball as an assistant, it was really my time to step up and take the reins. I am very excited to continue the successful program that Coach Cole has started and continue the culture of winning. I have always dreamed of coaching my own program, and this was the perfect opportunity.
Coaching history:

I have coached in Lomira since 2019 in a few different capacities. I was a varsity assistant in baseball for the past four years. While helping in all aspects of coaching a baseball team, I also focused on the pitching staff for the past four years. I was also in the high school basketball program from 2019-2024. I was a varsity assistant for two years and a JV coach for three years in the program.
Thoughts on the current state of the program:
The program is in great shape, we have won the conference the past three years, which speaks volumes of the kids who have gone through the program. They understand there is a culture of winning and expectations that match that culture. It will be fun to continue what Coach Cole built and maintain the culture of winning.
Your 2025 goals and long-term goals for the program:
The goals remain the same as the past three years with our goal to win the conference. We have another really strong returning team with ten returning seniors, all of who have contributed to the success of the program. Moving forward the goals will always remain the same, to compete at a high level in the conference and win playoff games.
Thoughts on your returning players on the roster:
We have ten returning seniors, all of whom contributed to the success of the program in the past. Multiple players have been starters in the program for multiple years, and returning that experience is always a recipe for success. We are also returning two first-team all-conference players in Weston Poth and Easton Zangl, as well as a second-team all-conference player in Jack Luedtke. Having this experience will help propel us to be a successful team this year.
Thoughts on the youth baseball in the area:
Between the Dual County Little League and various travel programs in the area, I feel like the state of youth baseball provides plenty of opportunities for the kids while still being competitive regardless of the level at which they choose to play.
Thoughts on the Flyway Conference:
The Flyway is a tough conference with quite a bit of competition and a fun conference to be a part of for the past three years, and I don’t see that changing any time soon. We have quite a few good competitive teams and some great coaching throughout the conference.
What are the most important roles of a coach:
A coach has many roles. To touch on a few, first, a teacher and leader with helping these young men develop into responsible, respectful, and hard-working leaders. If the players can spend time in the program and develop leadership skills that they can use in their future lives, I will be proud of them as a coach. Another is a mentor, helping the players understand that just like there are ups and downs in baseball there are also ups and downs in life. As we get through those peaks and valleys in the sport we love to play there are ways to get through them outside of baseball as well. As always, there is the skill development of the players by getting the team ready to go for every pitch, every game, and every season is vitally important. When the players see success they are more likely to buy into all of the other things that we are trying to accomplish.
Your coaching staff for the 2025 season:
Tom Cole will be the varsity assistant this season and Trent Birkel will be the JV coach.
