On April 25, Lomira baseball was defeated by Fond du Lac 12-4 in a non-conference game on a dreary, spring day.
Fond du Lac (4-4) was able to take a 1-0 lead over Lomira (8-4), but the Lions were able to limit the Cardinals to one run with the bases loaded with starting pitcher Jackson Goebel getting the batter to fly out to right field to get Lomira out of the first inning.
The Lions’ offense showed their power in the third inning with back-to-back RBI doubles from Dalton Zingsheim and Jack Luedtke to bring home three runs across the plate to give Lomira a 3-1 lead after three innings of baseball.
Lomira’s lead was short-lived when the Cardinals scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead back 4-3 over the Lions.
Fond du Lac scored six runs after the Lions got two outs against the Cardinals in the top of the fifth inning to expand their lead to 10-3.
The Lions were able to get the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, but Lomira was able to score only one run on a throwing error by Fond du Lac to get a little closer by the score of 10-4.
The Cardinals notched two more runs in the seventh to go home with a 12-4 non-conference victory over Lomira.
Dalton Zingsheim and Jack Luedtke combined for four hits and three runs batted in to lead the Lions in the cold baseball game.
Vs Campbellsport
On April 24, Lomira baseball lost 12-1 in five innings to Campbellsport to split the season series between the two Flyway foes.
Lomira (8-4, 4-2) got two outs in the first inning before Campbellsport (10-1, 5-1) scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars got the bases loaded against the Lions before Campbellsport scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Campbellsport added four runs in the third and a final run in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 12-0 over the Lions.
Lomira was able to score a run by an RBI double from Easton Zangl to make the final score 12-1 in favor of the Cougars in five innings in the Flyway conference matchup.
At Campbellsport
On April 22, Lomira baseball beat Campbellsport 8-2 on the road to tie the teams in the Flyway Conference race with the win.
Lomira (8-4, 4-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Campbellsport (10-1, 5-1), which was started off by a Kolton Wagoner double and finished off by a Jack Luedtke sacrifice fly scoring Easton Zangl in the first inning.
The Cougars tied up the game at two in the third inning before the Lions responded with three runs in the fourth inning, featuring an RBI single from Brody Luedtke and a two-run RBI single by Kolton Wagoner to push the Lomira lead to 5-2.
The Lions would add three insurance runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a B. Luedtke RBI single and a two-run RBl single from Zangl to increase the Lomira lead to 8-2 over the Cougars.
The Lomira defense displayed their defensive gloves by Dalton Zingsheim executing a double-play tag and throw to first to shut down any hope of a Cougars’ comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lomira was led by Weston Poth’s complete game with ten strikeouts on the mound, and Kolton Wagoner, Brody Luedtke, and Easton Zangl each driving in two runs apiece in their key conference victory.
Lomira baseball hosted Springs on April 29 and travels to Springs on May 1. The Lions host Waupun on May 2 with all game times at 5 p.m.
