On May 29, Lomira baseball defeated nine-seed WLA 13-3 in six innings to win their first-round matchup against their Flyway Conference foe.
WLA (13-11) took an early 2-0 lead over Lomira (13-12) in the first inning before the Lions responded in the second inning with four runs of their own, featuring a Dalton Zingsheim two-run RBI double to right and a Jonah Mason RBI single to give Lomira a 3-2 lead before there were two outs in the inning.
The Lions weren’t done with their bats in the second inning when Kolton Wagoner raked a double to center to drive in the final run in the inning to put the Lions at 4-2 over the Vikings.
Lomira was facing two outs again in the bottom of the third inning before the Lions got the bases loaded, which resulted in four runs, highlighted by an Easton Zangl two-run RBI single to increase the Lomira lead to 8-2.
The Vikings notched a run in the fourth, but the Lions wouldn’t be stopped in their home playoff game by scoring two runs in the fifth inning, led by Zangl getting an RBI single to expand their lead to 10-3.
Lomira got the bases loaded in the sixth inning with the opportunity to knock out the Vikings in the tournament matchup.
The Lions’ offense would get three runs thanks to a Wagoner RBI single and a Brody Luedtke two-run RBI single to secure the 13-3 tournament win in six innings.
Lomira was led on the mound by Dalton Zingsheim’s five innings, controlling the WLA offense, and the Lions offense was led by Kolton Wagoner, Brody Luedtke, and Easton Zangl, combining to drive in nine runs in the impressive victory.
“We burst into the playoffs with plenty of offense, with every player in the lineup recording a hit for us,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman. “Weston and Dalton pitched well on the mound, allowing no earned runs in six innings of work combined.”
Vs Kohler
On May 27, Lomira baseball lost 10-7 to Kohler on senior night to wrap up their regular season.
Lomira (13-12) took a 3-0 lead over Kohler (15-8) thanks to Easton Zangl’s 100th career hit, which was a double scoring Brody Luedtke and Jack Luedtke in the first inning.
Kohler would score four runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead before Jackson Goebel singled in a run to tie the game at four after three innings.
The Blue Bombers would score the next six runs of the game to extend their lead to 10-4 in the sixth inning.
Lomira was able to score three runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a Jack Luedtke two-run RBI single for the final score of 10-7 in Kohler’s win.
Easton Zangl and Dalton Zinghseim combined with four hits and three runs batted in to lead the Lions on senior night.
Lomira traveled to one-seed Cedar Grove-Belgium on June 3 for their second-round matchup in the WIAA Division 3 baseball tournament.
