On September 18, Lomira football won 41-22 over Omro on a rainy night in their Flyway Conference matchup on the road.

Omro (1-4, 0-3) scored first to take an 8-0 lead over Lomira (5-0, 3-0) with 8:43 in the first quarter.

Lomira responded with a six-yard rushing touchdown from Keegan Kell (101 rushing yards) at the 2:37 mark in the first quarter to make the score 8-7 in favor of the Foxes.

Hunter Schaumberg returned a punt for 55 yards to set the Lions offense in the red zone, and Eli James punched in the five-yard rushing touchdown to give Lomira a 13-8 lead at the 11:52 mark in the second quarter.

The Foxes scored their second touchdown at 6:57 in the second quarter to retake a 14-13 lead.

The Lions' offense continued its strong rushing attack with 332 rushing yards, and their next offensive possession ended with a three-yard rushing touchdown from Schaumberg, giving Lomira the lead back at 20-14 with 2:34 left in the half.

“Offensively, we were able to consistently move the ball thanks to a great push from the guys up front because they were physical and aggressive all night long,” said Lomira Head Coach Bryan Gregory.  “We continued to answer the call early on and kept the score in our favor through some early adversity.”

James recovered a fumble on the Omro 37-yard line, finishing off the drive with Schaumberg’s second touchdown on a four-yard rush, pushing the Lions' lead to 27-14 with 1:02 remaining in the first half.

“It was important for us to be able to control the line of scrimmage and sustain long drives,” said Gregory. “I thought Hunter, Keegan, and Eli ran extremely hard and made some impressive plays to keep drives alive.”

Omro scored on a 75-yard touchdown run, putting the halftime score at 27-22 in favor of the Lions.

Lomira recovered a fumble by Kell at the Omro 12-yard line, and Kell finished off the short field with a one-yard rush for his second rushing touchdown of the game, increasing the Lions' lead to 34-22 with 2:49 left in the third quarter.

“We challenged our defense at halftime, and they responded in the second half because we wanted to see what this group was made of when their backs are against the wall,”  said Gregory. “Adversity and pressure are two things that are going to continue to be present throughout the season.”

“Good learning experience for this group moving forward, and I’m happy with their level of play in the second half,” said Gregory.

Schaumburg (202 rushing yards) scored his third rushing touchdown on a 4-yard run with 3:49 left in the fourth quarter, putting the final touches on the 41-22 road victory for the Lions.

“The weather and playing conditions played a huge factor and made things extremely unpredictable,” said Gregory. “I thought we battled through a ton of adversity and did a good job of staying the course through it all. I’m proud of how we competed and kept fighting until the very end.”

Lomira football will host Laconia on September 25 at 7 p.m. for their 2026 homecoming game.
