Lions Pitching Shutout Four Straight Opponents

On May 4, Lomira softball defeated NFDL 13-0 in the five innings to sweep the season series against NFDL.
Lomira (12-2, 8-1) scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a Brianna Frea RBI single to take a 4-0 lead over NFDL (4-9, 3-6).
The Lions offense got going again in the third inning with three runs, featuring a Kennedy Goebel RBI double to increase the Lomira lead 7-0.
Haleigh Caspary started the scoring in the fourth inning with an RBI single to push the Lomira lead to 8-0 before the Lions faced two outs in the inning.

Lomira scored five more runs with two outs, featuring a Trista Gassner RBI single and Frea’s two-run RBI single to expand the Lions’ lead to 13-0 over the Orioles.
Lily Christian closed out the Orioles in the fifth inning to secure the Lions’ fourth straight shutout win by striking out eight batters and allowing only one hit.
Brianna Frea, Haleigh Caspary, and Trista Gassner powered the Lomira offense, combining for seven hits and seven runs batted in for the conference victory.
Lomira softball beat NFDL 7-0 at home in the first game of the doubleheader between the two Flyway Conference teams.
Lomira’s (12-2, 8-1) Haleigh Caspary led off the second inning with a double, followed by a Eleanor Collies double, which kicked-started the Lions’ offense, scoring three runs featuring Kennedy Goebel’s two-run RBI single to take a 3-0 lead NFDL (4-9, 3-6).
Caspary continued her impressive day on the diamond by hitting a triple and scoring in the third inning to increase their lead to 4-0.
The Lions got three singles from Addy Behnke, Goebel, and Trista Gassner to load the bases in the seventh inning before Lomira scored three runs, highlighted by a Brianna Frea two-run RBI single to take an impressive 7-0 lead.
Haleigh Caspary finished off a dominating performance on the mound by striking 17 batters on her way to no-hitting the Orioles in a shutout win for the Lions.
Trista Gassner, Kennedy Goebel, and Caspary combined for six hits to lead the Lomira offense.
At WLA
On April 30, Lomira softball defeated Winnebago Lutheran Academy 7-0 on the road for its second consecutive shutout in the Flyway Conference.
Lomira (12-2, 8-1) got an RBI single from Haleigh Caspary in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over WLA (8-6, 5-3).
Tori Thomas started the second inning with a leadoff single, followed by Addy Behnke’s single, which resulted in Kennedy Goebel hitting a sac fly to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
The game was a low-scoring affair until Goebel hit a leadoff double in the seventh to kick off a five-run inning by the Lions, capped off by a Haleigh Caspary three-run home run over the center field fence to give Lomira a commanding 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Caspary closed out the game on the mound, finishing with a complete game shutout by striking out 12 Viking batters in the 7-0 conference win.
Kennedy Goebel and Haleigh Caspary led the Lions offense by combining for five hits to help Lomira sweep the season series against WLA.
Vs Mayville
On April 28, Lomira softball beat Mayville 10-0 in five innings at home to sweep the season series against the Cardinals.
Lomira (12-2, 8-1) scored the first run of the game when Lily Christian drove in Izzy Westphal with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning over Mayville (0-15, 0-10).
The Lions scored two runs by Tori Thomas and Eleanor Collies in the second inning, plus an RBI single from Brianna Frea to push their lead to 4-0 over the Cardinals.
Lily Christian started the third inning with a single to set up a Tori Thomas RBI single for a 5-0 lead for Lomira.
Lomira got a two-run RBI double from Collies and a Kennedy Goebel RBI double to expand the Lions’ lead to 8-0 after three innings.
The Lions got singles from Goebel and Trista Gassner to start the fifth inning, with Frea and Westphal following up with RBI singles to clinch the 10-0 win for Lomira in five innings.
Lily Christian got the win by allowing one hit and striking out 12 Cardinal batters for the Lions in the shutout victory.
Lomira had six batters with at least two hits in the game, with Trista Gassner leading the way with three hits for the powerful Lions offense.
Lomira softball will host Laconia on May 7 at 5 p.m. and will host their annual home tournament on May 9 with games starting at 10 a.m. The Lions will travel to Mishicot on May at 4:30 p.m.
