On Feb. 5, the Lomira girls’ basketball team defeated Mavyille 67-32 in an impressive home performance against their Flyway Conference rival.
Lomira (15-5, 7-4) came out fast against Mayville (5-15, 1-10), taking a 16-5 lead, featuring four made three-pointers from various spots on the court by star sophomore Josie Christian.
Lily Christian knocked down a three-pointer for the Lions before Ady Christian scored for the Cardinals to make the score 19-8 in favor of Lomira.
The Lions went on a 12-0 scoring run, highlighted by L. Christian scoring five points, which included a made three-pointer assisted by her cousin J. Christian to give Lomira a commanding 31-8 with six minutes left in the first half.
Mayville scored seven of the next eight points of the game to close the gap on the scoreboard to 32-15 with Lomira in the lead.
Lomira scored nine consecutive points with the high point being Whitney Witkowski’s deep three-pointer, assisted by J. Christian, to expand the Lions’ lead to 41-15.
The Cardinals scored the final seven points of the first half with four points from Madison Justman and a three-pointer from A. Christian to make the halftime score 41-22 in favor of the Lions.
Jadalee Luedtke scored six points to start the second half to increase Lomira’s lead to 48-23 over the visiting Cardinals.
J. Christian had a nice step-through for a basket and drained her fifth three-pointer of the game, then proceeded to set up Olivia Marshall for a finish in the paint to push the Lions’ lead to 57-28.
Lomira only allowed Mayville to score four points in the final ten minutes of the game to close out an impressive 67-32 conference win for the Lions.
Josie Christian led the way for the Lions with 25 points, putting her 41 points from the school’s all-time scoring record of Julie Benter, set in 1993 with 1170 career points.
Lomira girls’ basketball hosted NFDL on Feb. 10 after print time. The Lions will travel to WLA on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. and then host Waupun on Feb. 16 at 7:15 p.m.
