Lions Get Wins Over Oaks and Cougars

Lomira (14-5) showed they were the superior team on both ends of the court by erupting to a halftime lead of 56-12 over Oakfield (0-17)
The Christian Cousins, Josie scoring 26 points and Lily adding 18, led the Lions to a convincing 90-31 win over the Oaks.
At Laconia

On January 29, the Lomira girls’ basketball team lost to Laconia 44-31 in its Flyway road conference matchup against the Spartans.
Laconia (11-6, 10-0) jumped out to an 8-0 lead over Lomira (14-5, 6-4) featuring two three-pointers from Finley Morgan.
The Lions responded with an 8-3 scoring stretch thanks to four points from Josie Christian, who was being face-guarded the most of the game, plus being swarmed by the Spartans defenders on every drive to the basket to tighten up the game at 11-8 in favor of Laconia.
Kennedy Goebel scored fifth straight points for the Lions, including knocking down a three-pointer, and J. Christian added four points to make the score 20-17 with the Spartans leading at halftime.
The Spartans’ lead ballooned up to 40-25 in the second half when Morgan hit her fifth three-pointer of the game before J. Christian was able to score eight late points for the Lions to make the final score 44-31 in favor of Laconia.
Finley Morgan led the Spartans with a game-high 19 points, and Josie Christian paced the Lions with 16 points in the battle of two stars of the Flyway Conference.
At Campbellsport
On January 27, Lomira girls’ basketball beat Campbellsport 67-29 on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Whitney Witkwoski’s three-pointer and two baskets from Josie Christian helped give Lomira (14-5, 6-4) a 9-6 lead over Campbellsport (1-15, 0-9) early in the first half.
J. Christian scored eight more first-half points to help the Lions take a 28-11 halftime lead over the Cougars.
Lomira’s defense fueled their offense, with J. Christian being an active defender, causing fast break points for the Lions, and J. Christian scoring 16 points of her team’s next 22 points to help push out Lomira’s lead to 50-16
The Lions maintained their lead the rest of the second half to come away with their 67-29 conference victory.
Josie Christian led the Lions with 30 points and 11 steals in the matchup between the two rivals.
Sydney Brandt led the way with 11 points, and Brittany Reilly, who is the fourth leading rebounder in the state (13.8 rebounds per game), pulled down 14 rebounds for the Cougars.
Lomira girls’ basketball will host Mayville on February 5 at 7 p.m.
