On Feb 12, Lomira boys basketball defeated Omro 80-57 on the road to clinch a share of their first Flyway conference championship since 2000.
Lomira (19-1, 10-0) was able to take an 11-10 lead over Omro (10-11, 5-6) when Charlie Cole knocked down a three-pointer from the corner.
Cooper King made a three-pointer, and Jackson Bloohm scored on a fast break to increase the Lions' lead to 20-11 over the Foxes.
Keegan Kell went on a personal ten-point scoring run, including drilling a three-pointer from the corner and the top of the key to push the Lomira lead to 30-15.
The Lions’ offense and defense didn’t slow down by ending the first half with an 8-0 scoring stretch to take a 39-20 lead into the halftime break.
Bloohm scored the first basket of the second half before Omro rattled off nine straight points to put the score at 41-29 in favor of the Lions.
Kell scored five straight points on a fast break layup and a three-pointer to give the momentum back to the Lions, which helped them push their lead to 46-29 over Omro.
Lomira was leading 50-38 with under 12 minutes left in the game when the Lions went on an impressive 16-0 scoring run over the next four minutes hgihighed by a King three-pointer in front of his bench to ignite the scoring frenzy for Lomira to expand their commanding lead to 66-38.
The Lions' final highlight of the game was when Cole threw a lob pass to senior big man Jake Broeske, who threw down a thunderous two-handed dunk, sending the Lomira bench and fans into a joyous celebration with a 73-45 lead on the scoreboard.
Lomira’s bench was able to close out the dominating 80-57 conference road win for the Lions.
Keegan Kell paced the Lions with 17 points, and Jake Broeske added 16 points with 13 rebounds against the Foxes.
Vs NFDL
On Feb 10, the Lomira boys’ basketball team beat NFDL 71-41 at home, remaining undefeated in the Flyway Conference with its 10th straight conference win.
Lomira (19-1, 10-0) took a 17-14 lead over NFDL (5-15, 0-10), highlighted by a strong two-handed dunk by Jake Broeske, skying over the Orioles defense.
The Lions held a 23-21 lead over the Orioles when Lomira went on a 7-0 scoring run, thanks to a Maddox Bodden three-pointer and a Keegan Kell fastbreak layup set up by a Charlie Cole steal to give the Lions a 30-21 lead.
Lomira got a Bodden layup off a steal, and Kell scored a basket to give the Lions a 37-26 halftime lead over the Orioles.
The Lions continued their strong play to start the second half, featuring four points apiece from Broeske, Cole, and Blake Steger to push the Lomira to a commanding 48-26 lead over NFDL.
Lomira didn’t slow up after the Orioles scored two points by going on a 14-0 scoring run fueled by three-pointers from Cooper King and Bodden to expand the Lions’ lead to 62-28 over the visiting Orioles.
Broeske scored four more points in the paint for the Lions to give them a 68-33 lead, which Lomira converted into a 71-41 conference win in the Lions’ Den.
The Lions were led by Jake Broeske’s 20 points and Maddox Bodden’s 13 points in the contest.
The Lomira boys basketball team traveled to Springs on Feb. 17 after print time. The Lions will host Campbellsport on Feb. 20 and will travel to Waupaca on Feb. 23, with game times at 7 p.m.
