On April 16, Lomira baseball lost to Winnebago Lutheran Academy 5-2 at home in a Flyway Conference matchup.
WLA (3-3, 1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning before Lomira (1-4,1-2) scored in the bottom of the third inning when Lane Pastorius hit a RBI single to left to drive in Blake Steger to tie the game at one.
The Lions got a run and a diving catch from Steger in left field to end the top of the fourth inning for WLA to keep the score tied at 1-1.
Kolton Wagoner led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single for Lomira, and Wagoner scored a ball judged to be fair going down the third base line, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead after four innings.
The Vikings scored two runs in the fifth inning, with the inning ending when Lomira pitcher Logan Wendler struck out the WLA batter with a runner on third base, keeping the score 3-2.
“Logan had a good day on the mound, surrendering three earned runs in five innings of work,” said Head Coach Sid Lehman.
WLA added two runs in the sixth inning, increasing their lead to 5-2 over the Lions.
Lomira mounted one final comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning, getting two runners on the base paths, but they were left stranded, giving WLA the 5-2 conference win.
Logan Wendler pitched five innings, striking out six batters on the mound, and Kolton Wagoner had two hits to pace the Lions.
Lomira baseball hosted NFDL on April 21 after print time. The Lions will travel to NFDL on April 23 at 4:30 p.m. and will travel to Random Lake on April 24 at 5 p.m. Lomira will travel to Kohler on April 27 at 4:30 p.m.
