Lady Cards Rally for Conference Win, Finish Fourth at Beaver Dam

The Mayville volleyball team battled through a busy week on the road, highlighted by a five-set comeback victory over Campbellsport in Flyway Conference play and a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Beaver Dam tournament.

Mayville opened the week Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Watertown Luther Prep, where the Phoenix handed the Cardinals their second loss of the season.

Luther Prep controlled the match in a 3-0 sweep. Mayville dropped the first two sets by identical 25-15 scores before falling 25-16 in the third.

Cardinals Rally at Campbellsport

Mayville returned to the road Thursday, Sept. 10, for conference play at Campbellsport and found itself facing an early two-set deficit.

The Cougars took the opening set 25-16 and followed with a 25-22 win in the second. With their backs against the wall, the Cardinals responded.

Mayville turned the match around with a 25-16 victory in the third and followed with a 25-19 win in the fourth to force a deciding fifth set. The Cardinals carried that momentum into the finale, taking the fifth 15-10 to complete the 3-2 comeback victory.

Mayville Takes Fourth at Beaver Dam

The Cardinals wrapped up the week Saturday, Sept. 12, with five matches at the Beaver Dam tournament, finishing fourth.

Mayville opened tournament play with a 2-0 win over Green Bay Southwest before battling Waukesha North for a 2-1 victory. The Cardinals continued their strong start with a 2-0 win over Green Bay Notre Dame.

Campbellsport and Mayville then met for the second time in three days, with the Cougars getting the better of the rematch, 2-0.

Mayville closed out the tournament with another matchup against Green Bay Notre Dame. This time, Notre Dame reversed the earlier result, defeating the Cardinals 2-0 to leave Mayville with a fourth-place finish.

Looking ahead, the Cardinals (11-2, 2-0) return home for conference play Thursday, Sept. 17, to host Winnebago Lutheran Academy (6-7, 1-1) before heading back on the road Saturday, Sept. 19, for tournament action at Fall River beginning at 9 a.m.
