The Mayville girls soccer team opened its season with a trio of home matches at Ribbens Memorial Park, facing strong early tests against Lakeside Lutheran, Sheboygan South, and Living Word Lutheran.
In the season opener that was moved to Horicon, the Lady Cardinals fell to Lakeside Lutheran, 10-2. Despite the final score, Mayville found the back of the net twice, led by Ellie Wojahn, who scored a goal and added another on a successfully converted penalty kick.
Mayville returned to the Ribbens Memorial pitch on Tuesday, April 7, hosting Sheboygan South. The Lady Cardinals again battled but came up short in a 9-2 loss. Adlyn Christian netted her first high school goal in the contest, while Wojahn added her second goal of the young season.
The Lady Cards showed improvement in their third outing on Friday, April 10, putting together a stronger offensive performance in a 7-4 loss to Living Word Lutheran. Madison Justman scored in the first half off an assist from Ady Christian, while Christian added a goal of her own in the second half as Mayville generated more scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Looking to be a busy week, the team takes it on the road Tuesday, April 14, at Kohler; Thursday, April 16, at Wayland Academy, and Friday, April 17, at Heritage Christian, first kick at 4:30 p.m.
