Lomira has hired Nick Kohler as their new boys’ varsity basketball coach for the 2025-26 basketball season.
The Lions are coming off a 19-9 season, which ended in the sectional semifinals. Lomira will be returning three starters, plus star big man Jake Broeske will be returning from a knee injury.
Kohler is Lomira’s fourth varsity boys’ basketball coach to lead the program in the past three seasons.
“I began my coaching career in the recreation basketball program in Pewaukee, where I attended high school,” said new Lomira boys’ varsity basketball coach Nick Kohler. “After college, I was hired at Germantown as an 8th-grade coach. I spent five years there: coaching at the youth level, three years as the head freshmen coach, and two years as a varsity assistant coach.”
“I’ve been interested in becoming a head coach for a few years, but I was waiting for the right opportunity that made sense in terms of both location and overall fit,” said Kohler. “Lomira checked both of those boxes, and I applied within the first couple of days after the position was posted.”
“The program appears to be in a solid place and with a lot of talent currently in the high school, and the youth program, although fairly new, has a strong foundation. I’m excited about the opportunity to expand that,” said Kohler.
“The middle school coaching staff has done a great job, and it seems to be a well-run program. The youth program has also been great so far, and I see a lot of potential and look forward to expanding it even further,” said Kohler
“The school’s facilities are some of the best I’ve seen, and the locker room is the nicest I’ve been in at any high school. The community has been incredibly supportive and welcoming,” said Kohler.
“Before coming to Lomira, I wasn’t very familiar with the Flyway, but I’ve learned quickly that it features some of the top Division 3 and 4 teams in the state,” said Kohler. “There’s a strong tradition of competitive, high-level basketball, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
“The most important role of a coach is to build strong relationships so that players know you genuinely care about their growth—both on and off the court,” said Kohler. “From there, it’s about preparing them well and putting them in the best position to succeed through preparation and player development.”
“My initial goal is to build a program that consistently competes at the top of the Flyway Conference,” said Kohler. “Long term, I want to grow the youth program and build a culture that gets kids excited to play basketball for Lomira High School from a young age.”
