Prior to the start of the Milwaukee Brewers game on Tuesday, August 26, Kathy Matuszewski was recognized as a Hometown Champion.
“The Brewers Hometown Champions Award (presented by Vortex) is designed to honor the courage, commitment, and sacrifices of the men and women in fire rescue service, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and first responder roles across Wisconsin who risk their lives or protect the lives of others, selflessly protecting and serving communities,” writes the Milwaukee Brewers. “This program allows us to thank our Hometown Champions for their service and show our appreciation for the sacrifices they make in keeping communities safe.”
On the social media post announcing Matuszewski as the Hometown Champion, the Milwaukee Brewers wrote, “Kathy Matuszweski has served the Mayville community and surrounding areas for over 40 years as an EMT and Advanced EMT. She has responded to more than 2,000 emergency calls and dedicated countless hours to teaching CPR, babysitting classes, and training future EMTs through the Mayville EMS Training Center that she helped establish. Kathy also served as a hospice nurse and longtime 6th grade camp nurse, becoming known for her compassion, selflessness, and heart of gold. Her impact on patients, students, and the community is immeasurable, and her love for helping others continues to inspire everyone around her.
At the game, the announcer made additions, saying, “Each response [to emergency calls] reflected her calmness under pressure. She often sacrificed her own time, never hesitating when someone was in need... In addition to her EMS service, Kathy works as a homecare hospice nurse. Those who know Kathy describe her as selfless, kind, and tireless in her service. Her legacy is etched into the lives she has touched...”
