Josie Christian’s 30 Points Lead Lomira Past Horicon

On November 25, the Lomira girls’ basketball team defeated Horicon 77-46 in their non-conference matchup at home.
Kennedy Goebel started the game with a three-pointer for Lomira (2-0) before Horicon’s Sarah Hodgson’s strong post move for two points and a three-pointer from Emily Bunkoske gave the Marshladies an early 5-3 lead.
The Lions went on a 17-1 scoring run, highlighted by four made three-pointers, including two from star sophomore Josie Christian, to give Lomira an early 20-6 commanding lead.
Mady Rinderle scored eight points for Horicon (2-1) to close the gap on the scoreboard to 26-15 before the Lions went on to score ten straight points, highlighted by four points from J. Christian and another three-pointer from Goebel to put the Lomira lead at 36-15.

Horicon stopped the Lions’ scoring run when Hodgson scored in the post, and Heller made two free throws to cut the Lomira lead to 36-19.
Lomira finished off the first half with a 5-1 scoring stretch to go into the halftime break with a 41-20 lead.
The Lions’ duo of Goebel and J. Christian continued their strong play in the second half when J. Christian scored off a steal, then Goebel drained a three, followed by J. Christian’s great dribble move through the lane and capped by a drive from the baseline from Goebel to explode the Lions’ lead to 50-20 over Horicon.
Hodgson scored in the post to end the Lions’ scoring run before Goebel scored two more buckets, which sandwiched a breakaway steal from J. Christian for a bucket to expand the Lomira lead to 56-22.
Rinderle scored four straight points for Horicon before J. Christian floated in the lane for Lomira, putting the score at 58-26 in favor of the Lions.
Lomira got a basket from senior Rachel Chervenka to keep the Lions in control with a 64-32 lead, then the two teams traded points the rest of the game until the final buzzer sounded with a 77-46 Lomira win.
Horicon was led by Sarah Hodgson’s 24 points in the contest, and Josie Christian led Lomira with 30 points and 14 rebounds in the impressive non-conference win.
Horicon girls basketball will travel to Rio on December 6 at 1 p.m. and hosts Lourdes Academy on December 8 at 5:30 p.m.
Lomira girls basketball hosted Laconia on December 2, after print time. The Lions then travel to Omro on December 5 at 7 p.m. and to Dodgeland on December 6 at 4 p.m.
