Husticon Football Scores 22 Points on the Road

On August 28, Husticon football lost 44-22 to Fall River/Rio on the road in their second game of the young football season.

Husticon (0-2) opened the game with an 80-yard drive, capped by Ashton Muche's two-yard rushing touchdown, giving the MarshFalcons a 6-0 lead over Fall River/Rio (1-1) at the 2:52 mark in the first quarter.

“Great way to start the game by methodically pushing the ball down the field,” said Head Coach Andrew Selgrad. “A nine-plus-minute drive to score to start is what you want as a coach, and heck of a job by our offense.”

The MarshFalcons tied up the game at 14 at the 4:01 mark in the second quarter after Muche scored a seven-yard rushing touchdown and two-point conversion on a pass from Anthony Kluck to Adrian Schuelke.

Husticon ended the first half thrillingly with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Kluck to Pierce Franz on fourth down, with no time remaining on the first-half clock.

“Fantastic play all around with AJ standing in the pocket, even with pressure coming, stayed with his read, threw a great ball, and Pierce made a great play on the ball with tremendous effort by everyone,” said Selgrad.

Muche added the two-point conversion to send the MarshFalcons excited into the halftime break with a 22-14 lead over Fall River/Rio.

Fall River/Rio scored 23 points in the third quarter to help secure the 44-22 victory over the visiting MarshFalcons.

“Defense is a work in progress, but I need to do a better job of getting our players in a position to succeed,” said Selgard.

“Offensively, we made some good strides this week with making fewer mistakes on our assignments,” said Selgard. “You want to see growth as a coach, and I definitely see growth from Week 1 to Week 2.”

Husticon football plays at Markesan on September 3 at 7 p.m.
