The Horicon softball team saw its postseason run come to a tough end on Tuesday, May 27, falling to the Waterloo Pirates 21-0 in four innings during regional play.
Waterloo wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two quick runs in the top of the first. With two outs, a Pirates batter delivered a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4-0. The damage didn’t stop there—Waterloo tacked on another run before Horicon could record the third out.
In the bottom of the inning, Cyri Reinwald and Breonna Buechel each drew walks, giving the Marshladies a glimmer of hope. However, they were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.
Waterloo’s bats remained red-hot in the second inning, as the Pirates added five more runs, capped off by a grand slam that pushed the score to 14-0. Horicon again struggled to generate any offense in their half of the inning and was unable to shift momentum.
Defensive errors compounded Horicon’s troubles throughout the game, and Waterloo’s consistent multi-RBI hits proved too much to overcome.
Despite the loss, the Marshladies wrapped up a strong season with an overall record of 11-11 and an impressive 10-2 mark in Trailways-East Conference play, earning them a second-place finish in the league.
