Horicon Seniors Count Down to Graduation Day

The Horicon School District Board of Education held a regular meeting on Monday, April 21, at 6 p.m.
Board Matters:
• David Westimayer and Jackie Vincent took their oaths of office as they remain on the board for another three years.
• There were three individuals hired for the following positions: special education teacher, middle school/high school choir teacher, and a long-term substitute teacher in the middle school.
• A $500 donation was made towards the refinishing of the gym floor; American flags were donated by the Legion to the District; The Stand in Iron Ridge donated pizzas for middle school girls’ basketball games; And 17 area businesses donated money towards the middle school’s fun run taking place Friday, May 2.

• The District renewed their school bus contract with Johnson, WCA health insurance, Delta Dental/Vision insurance, standard STD/LTD insurance, and teacher contracts for 2025-2026.
• The Board also approved non-instructional staff letters of appointment, administration and administrative support contracts, the fundraising calendar and school fees for 2025-2026.
• The Board had its first reading of a new Neola policy, third grade promotion and retention: at-risk students. The policy will not go in effect until September 2027.
• Horicon’s commencement is taking place Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m.
• Highlights from the elementary school included the book fair that is taking place all this week.
• Highlights from the middle school consisted of upcoming field trips to the Science of Music exhibit in Oshkosh on May 1, rollerskating on May 16, and a picnic at River Bend Park on May 22.
• Highlights from the high school included Horicon taking first place in the 2025 Gator Wars, receiving the $18,000 needed to cover the bus, flight, and insurance costs for all students going to Guatemala this summer, and the weight room is having flooring work done. Prom was last Saturday, April 26, and a trip was taken to the planetarium on April 21. Students in agriculture will be taking tours of local farms, as well.
