Horicon Living History Days Brings Centuries to Life at River Bend Park (Photo Gallery)

River Bend Park transformed into a living time capsule this weekend as the 14th annual Horicon Living History Days brought centuries of heritage to the shores of the Rock River.
The event, held annually over Mother’s Day weekend, offers visitors an immersive glimpse into life ranging from the 1600s through the World War II era. Organized by the Horicon Historical Society with assistance from the Horicon Phoenix Program, the gathering features authentic reenactment camps, black powder gun demonstrations, and historical vendors.
Festivities began Friday with a dedicated “school day,” where local and homeschool students received private tours of the encampments to learn directly from history interpreters.
Saturday’s highlights included the popular open-fire pie-baking competition. Society curator Lahnie Moyle-Neu introduced the contest to demonstrate the complexities of cooking over a wood fire, with community judges evaluating the results.
A hay wagon shuttle, provided by the Dodge County Antique Power Club, helped transport guests from the park entrance to the various battle sites and camp displays.
Admission fees—$5 for adults and $2 for children—support the non-profit Horicon Historical Society. As the event marks its 14th year, organizers say the immersion experience continues to be a vital educational cornerstone for preserving Wisconsin’s varied past.
