The Horicon girls’ basketball team (11-11) secured a decisive victory over Oakfield (0-20) on Friday, February 13, with a final score of 65-25.
The Marshladies took control of the game early and never looked back. Sarah Hodgson started the scoring with a layup, quickly followed by a three-pointer from Aubrey Ehrlich.
By the halfway point of the first half, Horicon led 14-3, a lead that was extended when Emily Bunkoske hit a three-pointer and a subsequent layup. Ehrlich closed out the first half with another three-pointer, giving Horicon a commanding 35-8 lead at the break.
Horicon’s strong performance continued in the second half. Ehrlich opened the scoring with her third three-pointer of the contest.
Bunkoske added her second three-pointer with over nine minutes left, pushing the lead to 55-18.
Hodgson led all scorers with a double-double, tallying 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Ehrlich was a major factor from beyond the arc, making a total of four three-pointers in the win.

In a closely contested battle on Tuesday, February 10, the Horicon girls’ basketball team (10-11) defeated Central Wisconsin Christian (CWC) (14-5) with a final score of 44-35, after losing to them the previous week.
The Marshladies had a strong showing in the first half, with Cassidy Wittnebel and Emily Bunkoske sinking three-pointers from the left and right corners, respectively. Aubrey Ehrlich also contributed with a three-point score just before the half ended.
The game remained tight throughout. With approximately 11 minutes left in the second half, Azelyn Heller scored a layup, giving Horicon a slight edge at 22-19.
CWC quickly tied the game at 22-22, but C. Wittnebel answered immediately with a jump shot outside the lane.
The tie was reestablished at 26 before Heller secured another layup to keep Horicon in the game.
Bunkoske hit another crucial three-pointer late in the game.
Ultimately, the two teams were neck and neck for most of the contest, but Horicon pulled ahead in the final stretch, securing the 44-35 victory.
The Marshladies end the regular season with two away games this week. They played Portage on Monday night, after print time, and Valley Christian on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7:15 p.m. Their first post-season game is Tuesday night, Feb. 24, at home against Random Lake at 7 p.m.CWC, 35 vs Horicon, 44
