Posted

Horicon boy’ basketball (13-4) claimed victory over Dodgeland (6-11) on Friday, Feb. 6, winning 72-60 on Parents Night.
The Horicon squad came out of the gate quickly, with Jay Graven setting the tone. Graven started the game with a steal and a layup for two points, and duplicated the feat just a minute later.
A key defensive moment came early in the first half when, with Horicon leading 17-7, a Dodgeland player ran into Quin Jackl, losing the ball. Jackl quickly recovered the turnover and converted it into two points. Graven continued his hot hand with a three-pointer at the 7:27 mark. Barrett Meyer then scored on a fast-break layup, pushing the score to 33-29 as the first half neared its close.
In the second half, the defensive skills of Jay Graven and Reed Vorlob were on full display, holding off the Dodgeland attack. The Marshmen maintained their lead, with Meyer contributing another layup to make the score 64-49 before closing out the game with the final 72-60 score.
Graven and Meyer had high-scoring games, shooting 29 and 25 points, respectively.

Vs Lourdes
Horicon boys’ basketball secured a hard-fought victory against Lourdes Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 3, winning 59-56. The Marshmen (12-4) had to fend off a late surge from the Knights (9-9) to clinch the win in a game that came down to the final minute.
Horicon started strong, establishing an early lead behind a steady barrage of three-pointers. Quin Jackl got the scoring going with a three-pointer to make the score 14-8 just under the 11-minute mark. Jackl and Christian Schwartz then went for back-to-back three-pointers, extending the lead to 23-17. Schwartz later shot-faked before sinking another three-pointer to put Horicon up 30-20. Barrett Meyer closed out the first half with a three, making the halftime score 33-27.
Jackl kept the momentum rolling in the second half, starting with a three. Schwartz followed suit with another three, pushing the score to 41-32 with just over twelve minutes left.

Lourdes, however, refused to quit. The Knights made a comeback, tying the game at 47 around the six-and-a-half-minute mark. The teams battled neck and neck, remaining tied at 56 with only one minute left on the clock.
In a pivotal moment, Christian Schwartz attempted a shot and drew a foul, earning a trip to the free-throw line. He capitalized on the opportunity, giving the Marshmen a 59-56 lead. With time for Lourdes to make a final move, Reed Vorlob delivered a crucial block to protect the lead. Lourdes attempted to draw a foul in their final possession but failed, allowing Horicon to close out the game with the 59-56 victory.
This week, the boys played Cambridge on Monday night. On Thursday, they play Central Wisconsin Christian at home at 7:15 p.m., and on Saturday afternoon, they play Lake Country at 2:30 p.m. at home.
