Horicon, the No. 3 seed in the WIAA Division 3 Baseball Tournament, had no problem taking care of the No. 14 seed, Oostburg, on Thursday, May 29.
While the Dutchmen struck first in the first inning, the Marshmen would allow them one other run in their 12-2 victory.
Horicon’s bats woke up in the third inning when they scored two, highlighted by a stolen base from Quinten Brown on an error to move to second and scoring position.
It was in the fifth inning that Oostburg hit a double, scoring their other run.
Oostberg’s confidence started to dwindle as their defense fell apart in the fifth inning. After Jay Graven drew a walk, the bases were loaded for Owen Muche. A wild pitch allowed the first run to cross the plate in the inning, making it a 3-2 game and giving Horicon the lead. Muche drew another walk, keeping the bases loaded for Laytin Krueger, who helped bring two more Marshmen home and bring the score to 5-2. The fifth inning ended with a score of 6-2 after the Marshmen tacked on one more run.
