Horicon Bank Celebrates 130 Years

Posted

In 1896 Horicon Bank opened its doors in Horicon and now 130 years later, they celebrated the occasion on Tuesday, Sept. 8 with a ribbon cutting.

They also celebrated their building, which was built in 1915 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Over these 130 years we’ve served the Horicon community with deposit services and loans activity for home loans and for agricultural loans and for business loans. And we’ve grown from Horicon, around the Horicon Marsh, to places like Mayville, Beaver Dam, Waupun, Iron Ridge and Neosho,” CEO of Horicon Bank, Fred F. Schwertfeger, said.

In their many years they have grown to have 19 branches across Wisconsin and have 230 employees.

Horicon Bank likes to celebrate their milestones, that includes each location having a celebration in the month they opened. For Horicon, it was September.

Each branch manager plans the activities for the celebration in the community. Matt Peterson, the branch manager in Horicon, planned the events here.

Growing up in the area, Horicon holds a special spot in Schwertfeger’s heart.

Schwertfeger stated, “I grew up in Horicon and it’s always very reassuring to me to have a role in Horicon and through the bank is so important to any community and we’re grateful that Forbes Magazine recognized us as the number one best bank in Wisconsin for 2026.”

In addition to their celebration on Sept. 8, they also had a ribbon cutting ceremony at their mural on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.
