Green Valley Enterprises, a division of Opportunities, Inc., was honored to be chosen to host the U.S. Committee on Education & Workforce’s official U.S. Congressional On-Site Field Hearing at its Beaver Dam location on Feb. 13. Longtime advocate for choice, Congressman Glenn Grothman, played a key role in securing this important opportunity for the organization and the individuals it serves.
The hearing, titled “Work, Dignity and Choice in Disability Employment,” highlighted the importance of preserving a full array of employment options for individuals with diverse abilities. Testimony focused on ensuring continued access to choice, including Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act programs for those who rely on them as part of their long-term stability, independence, and fulfillment.
Stakeholders, advocates, families, and community partners gathered to support testimony emphasizing the right of individuals with disabilities—and their families—to choose the work that best aligns with their personal needs and goals. The hearing offered a significant national platform for voices within the disability community.
“We were grateful for the opportunity to engage with federal legislators and help shape a future that supports choice, dignity, and meaningful work for individuals with diverse abilities,” Barb LeDuc, Opportunities, Inc. President/CEO, said. “We hope the impact of the hearing will positively influence lives in Wisconsin and across the nation.”
