On January 24, Dan and Jackie Robinson will be honored as Lomira’s Citizens of the Year.
Dan and Jackie Robinson moved to Lomira in June of 1984, purchased a house in Brownsville in 1994, and then moved to Lomira in 2024.
They have three children, who were born during their time here in Lomira.
They have a son, Andy, and his wife, Ashley, and their two boys, Ronnie and Ryker; another son, Donnie, and his wife, Kristi, and their children, Alia, Miles, Sophia, and Charlotte; and a daughter, Danielle Warden, and her husband, Jeff.
“Jackie and I are very proud of our family,” said Dan Robinson. “The children have always been very active in our community in the FFA, 4-H, Lomira Band, Athletics, and showing livestock. The community always supported our family in many of their activities, and we have always appreciated this support.”
Dan has been the Lomira Agricultural Education instructor for the past 41 years. He has also coached many students as members of the Lomira Wrestling coaching staff.
“It has been a pleasure and honor to work with the students and families of the Lomira School District,” said Robinson. “The wrestling family and the athletes have helped me to become a better coach and mentor to our students.”
The Robinsons have been working as advisors and mentors to their students to promote career success, premier leadership, and community service.
“Dan and Jackie built one of the best FFA programs in the state by putting students first and holding them to be a great asset to our local community,” said Gene Schroeder.
Some Lomira highlights were the addition of the greenhouse in 1992 for the horticulture program, and having four State FFA officers - Jeff Hicken, Betsy Wagner, Katie Kindschuh-Schaefer, and Parker Litterick.
“The Lomira FFA Alumni and supporters have been a great group to help us with the mission of the FFA and the agricultural students,” said Robinson. “Their help and support have helped us to grow our Ag program and develop many of our goals while working with FFA students.”
Jackie worked in preschools in Fond du Lac and Lomira, and then proceeded to substitute teach for the School District of Lomira for 20 years.
She then accepted the position as Fond du Lac Agribusiness Ag Ambassador in 2021.
“Jackie was able to educate hundreds of students at elementary schools as the Ag Ambassador to learn the value of agriculture in our state and nation,” said Robinson.
The Robinsons were charter members of the Lomira Booster Club, and Jackie served on the Board of Directors for the booster club, helping to fund the student athletic programs.
“We appreciate our Lomira School family and all of the friends we have made while working at the school,” said Robinson. “The faculty and board of education have always supported us in our school-related activities with their leadership, advice, and friendship that will always be appreciated.”
The Robinsons are active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brownsville, and they helped with the South Bryon 4-H and the Fond du Lac Market Livestock group.
“I want to thank the church members of St. Paul’s for their support and encouragement,” said Robinson.
Dan is the former president and the current secretary for the Lomira Lions Club .
“We have been able to help develop methods to prevent blindness and to support our community in many activities, such as the Run for Sight, Chicken BBQ, Pancake Breakfast, and the support of many local initiatives,” said Robinson. “The Lomira Lions Club members always lead with service in mind.”
“We are so blessed to have Dan and Jackie and what they bring to our community,” said Schroeder.
Dan and Jackie have helped with the Lomira Chamber of Commerce’s Appreciation Days by helping with the FFA/FBLA scholarship silent auction, bingo, and the FFA Alumni tractor pull.
“We appreciate helping many others in their community service projects during the year,” said Robinson.
The Robinsons recall one of their fondest memories of their time in Lomira. “It was the day we were looking for an apartment in Lomira when we came in 1984, and we were not having a lot of success, but then we walked into Brasch’s Piggly Wiggly next to Schraufnagel Implement, at that time, and met Joanne Brasch,” said Robinson. “She was so welcoming and found us a listing on the bulletin board that helped us to find a place to stay.”
“She was so welcoming, and we knew that we were in the right place,” said Robinson. “Thank you to Joanne and Leon for all of their help during our years. We will never forget you.”
“We are very proud of the close-knit community that we live in and its value of education,” said Robinson. “It is great to walk into a store or business and to be greeted with a hello and a smile.”
“The community members always support the youth of Lomira by being there for the students. It doesn’t matter if it is a brat fry, plant sale, sporting event, band concert, FFA banquet, or a walk or run with our community supporting all of the events.”
