The Mayville Cardinals opened a busy four-game week Monday with a 12-5 road loss at Kewaskum, as the Indians used a big middle innings surge to pull away.
Mayville came out strong, plating two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Kewaskum answered with a run in the bottom half and gradually chipped away before breaking the game open in the fourth inning with a four-run rally to take a 6-2 advantage.
The Cardinals responded in the fifth, putting together their best inning of the night. Behind timely hitting, including a three-run home run from Tanner Schneider, Mayville cut into the deficit and briefly regained momentum. Schneider finished with three RBIs on the night.
Kewaskum, however, answered immediately and decisively, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 11-5. The Indians added another run in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Weston Teeters led Mayville at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double and a run scored, as the Cardinals collected 10 hits as a team. Despite the offensive production, Mayville was unable to keep pace with Kewaskum’s aggressive approach on the bases, which included multiple stolen bases and consistent pressure.
On the mound, the Cardinals struggled to contain Kewaskum’s offense, issuing nine walks and allowing 12 runs, 10 of them earned. Tyler Loos led the team in strikeouts, while Cole Runte saw time on the mound in relief.
Teeters Strong on Mound, Cardinals Fall to Omro 3-1
The Mayville Cardinals (3-3) dropped their second game of a busy week Tuesday night, falling 3-1 to Omro (5-0) at Fireman’s Field despite a strong pitching performance from Weston Teeters.
Locked in a scoreless battle through the first two innings, the game turned in the third when Omro pushed across three runs to take control. That would prove to be enough, as Mayville struggled to generate offense against the Foxes.
Teeters kept the Cardinals within reach, going the distance on the mound with seven strikeouts over seven innings while allowing just three runs. His effort gave Mayville a chance to rally late.
The Cardinals broke through in the sixth inning when Kevin Keller delivered a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, Mayville was unable to build further momentum in the final inning.
Paxton Decker and Keller each recorded hits for the Cardinals, who managed four hits overall on the night. Mayville’s defense was solid, playing error-free baseball behind Teeters.
Cardinals Bounce Back in Big Way, Rolling Past Omro and Hustisford/Dodgland
After a tough loss earlier in the week, the Mayville Cardinals (3-4,1-3) responded in emphatic fashion Thursday, powering past Omro(6-0,3-0) 11-3 on the road.
Mayville wasted little time setting the tone, scoring in the opening inning before erupting for three runs in the second to build an early 4-0 lead. Omro answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but that would be as close as the Foxes would get.
The Cardinals continued to apply pressure, adding three more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to steadily pull away. Mayville capped the scoring with a three-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Weston Teeters led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. The Cardinals showed patience at the plate as well, drawing six walks and taking advantage of three hit-by-pitches to keep runners on base throughout the game.
On the mound, Kevin Keller delivered a dominant performance, striking out 11 over six and two-thirds innings while allowing no earned runs. He kept Omro off balance all game, limiting the Foxes to just a handful of hits and stranding runners in key situations.
Mayville finished with eight hits and 11 runs, using a balanced attack and timely hitting to secure the win. Despite a few defensive miscues, the Cardinals controlled the game from start to finish.
Mayville carried that momentum into Saturday, rolling past Hustisford/Dodgeland 15-5 at home. After falling behind early, the Cardinals surged ahead with a four-run fifth inning before breaking the game open with a nine-run sixth to seal the win.
The Cardinals host Campbellsport (5-4)on Monday. The team travels to Laconia (5-2) on Tuesday (3-2), and the team brings it back home on Thursday, April 30, hosting Laconia, first pitch at 5 p.m.
